Maffeo and Angelino loaned to Girona

Girona in La liga would be good for us.

Bingo.

We have an affiliate club in the Spanish league. Does it not make perfect sense to aid them to the top level so we can send future prospects to play at that level?

It's half a season for two raw kids. No sweat.

So let me get this right.

Our coach, arguably the best in the world who learnt his trade in the Spanish 2nd division with Barca B and was responsible for bringing through a generation of footballers who turned into the backbone of possibly the best club side in history, is being criticised for sending two of our best prospects along the same path, and yet these people who are criticising probably have no experience above the level of park football or Football Manager?

Business as usual on Bluemoon then!!

Good post, except Barca B was in the 4th division at the time he took over before getting them promoted

To all those worrying about injuries you only have to look at the way we play. We play our full backs so far forward and in various places that we wouldn't suffer. I think Maffeo has looked fantastic in the games he has played but he definitely needs gametime and experience. He is wasted staying here 'just in case'. Providing no chain of injuries there are plenty who could fill in not to mention Pep will just juggle tactics to suit injuries anyway.

There is no such thing as a right back anymore along with several replacements just in case because we aren't able to cope or adapt. We have many players who could fill in should the worst happen so the benefit of allowing the two lads to gain experience and gametime far outweighs sitting them on the bench just in case.

Might mean we have an eye on a couple of full backs in the transfer window...lets bloody hope so and they go straight into the team.

The Segunda division table for anyone interested.

Maffeo really came into his own last year in the play-offs, but I think they'll be really keen to avoid the play-offs this time.

I think it's a very good loan, personally, Maffeo came back from his loan last season with more edge, and looking much more ready for the first team. If Angelino can get that out of this loan, absolutely perfect.

For Maffeo, he should go back into the team quickly, he already knows the coach and teammates, plus his familiarity will help Angelino fit in.

If Manu Garcia is anything to go on, they could both find themselves back in the Spain youth set up as well with some playing time in Spain.

It's good as far as loans go, we know how they'll play and we know they'll be treated well.

The question is whether they (especially Maffeo) should have gone on loan, and that might well depend on if we sign anyone in January.

Some good teams in that league, the loan will serve them both well and certainly better than playing in our stiffs or sitting on our bench,at best.

Very good post.
Should they have gone? Tim

Good post.
I agree it is a good choice for a loan but I doubt if we will see either player seriously compete for the first 11 in the future.
Surely this of all seasons it is nailed on for one of the defenders from the academy to put their hands up.
By the time these guys get back there could be 2 or 3 new signings ahead of them in the pecking order.
Realistically we are looking at a cheap sale with a buy back clause should the player prosper.

I completely disagree, I think Maffeo will be in the first team next season, with another new RB we buy in the summer. He's good enough, the timing just isn't right at the moment because Pep is having to juggle too big a squad and he can't keep 3 RB's happy.

If he's not a proper part of the squad next season then I'd agree, he's lost his chance.

Ive only seen Maffeo play a few times but he looks every inch a quality right back who will make it in the premier league so im hoping he's getting match ready for next season or PEP see's something in him that most of us on here don't

Said it before, can be no worse than what we currently have as full backs and for me should be here and given a shot.

There are two City trained fullbacks playing well in the Prem and that's Kieran Trippier and Ben Mee. I am worried that we might also overlook giving Maffeo and Angeline a fair crack of the whip.

Mee is a centre back. As a full back I would rate him just behind Kolarov. Slightly better defender but a waste of time as an attacking player.

They are playing well because they've played week in week out when they left city, we couldnt give that option

I believe that more than half of the people here bashing Girona or second Spanish division as shot, haven't even watched 5 full games of that league in their entire life.

Second division is competitive, and Girona will f*cking go up this year.

Thanks Nelly. I know Mee has played left back in the past but that was probably just filling in. Our best full back in recent times has been Sagna and he prioritises his defensive work
and gets forward when he can. Unless we can acquire world class full backs it would be good to see the defensive side of things given a bigger priority.

My main point was that we have a track
Record overlooking homegrown players over the last decade.

A fair point to make.

Most of us dont see the point in seeing if a player has what it takes to play in the Premier league going to a club in Spain when he should be at a struggling Premier league club or in the Championship thats all and its no slight on Girona or the Spanish second division.

Sorry, for a bit grumpy at some comments. Still, Màffeo knows the club, he can be a starter. I am not sure in what teams can Màffeo and Angelino be starters in the Premier, and I don't see what advantages gives the Championship against 2nd Spanish division.

Pd: comments about Angelino? Is he a useful player?
