Maicon

I clashed with people in the transfer forum when we first started getting linked with him. I found even rumours of his transfer to City offensive, you can imagine my severe disappointment when we went ahead and stumped up 4m for him.

This one rivals the RSC transfer on the moronic transfers sliding scale.

What a moronic post, this is a player that was instrumental in winning the champions league and you are disappointed we spent 4m on him when championship players are sold for twice as much or average championship strikers go for 2.5 mil. RSC cost 18mil and has a terrible injury record. People talking about Bale, should remember Richards playing worse at White Hart Lane in 2010, was it time to get rid was he a spent force?

What a moronic post. This player was 'instrumental' in winning the champions league years ago! Welcome to 2012. He is:

a) Old and way past his best
b) An asset whose value is falling as a result of the above with zero sell-on value
c) Totally surplus to requirements, we have 2 full-backs that are better

There is NO YIELD here at all, I bet he hardly kicks a ball for us this season and even less next season. It was an exercise in money burning. I wish I could have gone up to our management and said "Guys, I'll give you some sage advise for a fee of 1m, the advice is going to save you 2.5m, deal? (Yes) DO NOT BUY MAICON"

He is 31, and is one of the best full backs of the modern era, Mourinho brought in season veterans en route to the CL win and Maldini was playing for Milan until he was 40, Scholes is well past his best but he still has a use; would they have payed money to bring him back yes, it is 4 mil, alot to us yes, but who else does it buy; Matt Phillips, Tom Ince Maybe, so stop counting the pennies, it was a part speculative buy, will people be coming on moaning when Denis Suarez is released when he cost more than a 1mil and was at least part speculative, because I don't see him being a great success.

Wow you think we'd had spent 100m on this guy. He's a squad player. Basically exists to fill gaps when we need him.

"Well he was only £4m" is not an acceptable reason to purchase a player, and I can assure you, will be unacceptable to our owners too, regardless of their obvious wealth. Also, we have to adjust and comply to UEFA financial fair play rules, we need to balance books, we cannot shotgun purchase players on a whim. We’re not a selling club and even when we do sell we usually get worked over at the negotiating table as we’re desperate to get rid in many cases. Additionally, we’re not a major global brand like some other clubs we know.

Maicon was a shitty buy for a host of reasons, although he does fill the painful void left by Berti Glauber.

Same. With reports that Zab may have a slight injury, I'm glad to have him knowing Micah's tendency to get a knock.

don't be stupid he played in 2 consecutive away games, picked up an injury and so has n't been playing, if he is n't up to scratch he will likely move on as he does n't strike me as the Wayne Bridge type, after that terrible performance you have to keep moaning about a quality wing-back signed on the cheap.

You're the one being stupid mate, he's not going to get a look in this year and if/when he does move on he'll do so on a free or for a quarter of what we paid for him. His signing was an exercise in money burning, plain and simple. Time will prove me emphatically correct on this subject.
