Maine Road or Etihad

I was looking at the inside of 'The Etihad' the other night against Wolves, and I thought it was really impressive, incredibly so, but I'm of the mind though that the perfect scenario would be to put it where Maine Road was, that area will always be what I personally consider our home, just the area itself had a raw, working class feel and character about it, it had a reputation even back then, yet it still felt safe, mad that I was allowed as a 7/8 year old to just hop on the bus and go to Moss Side in the 70's, almost unheard of now and the past few decades.

I've crawled home from there a few times mate :,-)

You and me both, I grew up about 200 yards from the Kingsway in West Point. Spent most of my formative years in the Church on Stockport Road though, even played for the Darts team for a while.

I live 50 yards from it mate it's a small world I,e, the church,farmers,etc

Would have to say the Etihad, as I think Nostalgia/only remembering the good times (not what it was on average) would be my only reason for picking Maine road.

I loved my time spent as a season ticket holder on the Kippax as an impressionable teenager in the late 80’s onwards. There was a lot of shit though, and Maine road wasn’t always what it’s portrayed to be.

It’s the Kippax and the terracing experience in particular that I miss.

The Etihad is the place where we’ve seen the success we only ever dreamed of. Stick a terrace in there and it would be a lot better still, although the ‘terrace days’ and experiences of the late 80’s/early 90’s are gone, never to return.

Aguero, Silva, Kompany etc all at the Etihad. Our best ever days by a long shot. Putting the rags in their place etc etc. All at the Etihad (for me at least).

I think the first ground you ever step into, as a kid, will always hold a unique place in your heart ... as Maine Road does for me and loads of others on here. Maine Road felt such a raw experience, and you could feel the connection with generations past. I really do miss it.

But putting my logical hat on, we all endured an awful lot of terrible football & cock-ups at Maine Road, in (too) many of the later years ... and have seen almost nothing but success at the Etihad.

I wonder back in the day when City moved from Hyde Road to Maine Road how much the fans moaned at the time, ie wonder if you had a lot of "not the same atmosphere as Hyde Road " ?
I doubt anyone was moaning about the atmosphere when 84,500 plus fans turned up at Maine road for the fa cup quarter final v stoke in 1934.
Im very proud of that record gate,it has shut upb a lot of fans of other teams up over the years,.....most of whom didnt even know their teams record attendance
Even now to this day ,most utd fans dont know their record attendance ,and the circumstances around it.

although the ground being a dump i loved the area around Maine Road, the pubs, curry mile, the general buzz on match days,i love the Etihad but hate the area so in an ideal world the Etihad in Moss Side would have been great,Maine road will always be home to me and if im ever near there il go out of my way to have a drive past or maybe sit in the car for a few minutes to capture some thoughts

I had my first Covid jab at the tennis centre at Sportcity. I needed a piss before I went in, and there was one other guy in the portaloo block outside. After a deep breath in, I said to him "this takes me back a bit". He asked me what I meant, so I replied "it reminds of the toilets at the back of the Kippax!" The guy said he was also a blue, and knew exactly what I meant.
