Maine Road redevelopment

Most of us miss it terribly. It was home. But that era has gone, and it's time to let go. And let's be honest; at the end, it was an eyesore. 4 non matching stands, small capacity. And, like the Empti, our current stadium, it was a pain to get away from. Plenty of pubs within staggering distance, mind. And chippys.

we don't have to let go ? the memories and talking points are great advice to the young fans.
winning and glory does not matter. the maine road manchester city fans are not in it for glory and sometimes you have to correct the younger bunch its in your blood

When watching games again from the 70's on Big Match Revisited, Maine Road doesn't actually look too bad compared to most other top flight stadia of that era. Chelsea fans conveniently forget that their ground was an absolute shithole then with average attendances of just over 20k by the end of that decade and into the eighties. Our problem was that Swales had champagne ambitions for Maine Road but beer funding. Consequently, we ended up with a patchwork quilt of a stadium with none of the stands matching. If I remember correctly, the steelwork went in under the main stand roof in readiness for executive boxes at one point only for the money to run out! For all its faults, we still loved it of course.

so what ?
i can say 30.000 city felt the same way ? manchester city was and still will be our club without glory
If that’s what you rather have that’s fine. I have unbelievable memories of Maine Road, I went there from being 4 years of age with my Dad who when he died his ashes were scattered On the touch line. But it was time to move as the ground was a patchwork of different stands. We’ve moved on to bigger and better things, better memories, more trophies and better football.
