Maine Road redevelopment

When watching games again from the 70's on Big Match Revisited, Maine Road doesn't actually look too bad compared to most other top flight stadia of that era. Chelsea fans conveniently forget that their ground was an absolute shithole then with average attendances of just over 20k by the end of that decade and into the eighties. Our problem was that Swales had champagne ambitions for Maine Road but beer funding. Consequently, we ended up with a patchwork quilt of a stadium with none of the stands matching. If I remember correctly, the steelwork went in under the main stand roof in readiness for executive boxes at one point only for the money to run out! For all its faults, we still loved it of course.

also manchester city was one of the first clubs at maine road to have undersoil heating

hahaha yep

funny story was when i was younger we would jump into the platt lane end about 15 minutes from the end
the kippax alley one of my mates (ducky) fell and landed in a pile of horse shit head first hahahahahaah
Isn't that supposed to be lucky (for Ducky)?

If that’s what you rather have that’s fine. I have unbelievable memories of Maine Road, I went there from being 4 years of age with my Dad who when he died his ashes were scattered On the touch line. But it was time to move as the ground was a patchwork of different stands. We’ve moved on to bigger and better things, better memories, more trophies and better football.

great post matey

i love both city now and back then and the memories of Maine Road should never be forgot
like your dad and many more dads and mums there ashes are imbedded in the ground forever more

yes we have to move on and we are so much better off with great owners and silverware dripping from the rafters
but i don't think i will ever move on and leave that little bit of the old manchester city maine road behind

Oldham & QPR had it long before us didn't they? Or was that fake grass? I've confused myself I think.
I played on that astroturf at Boundary Park 3 or 4 times and every time I ended up with literally no skin on my knees for weeks afterwards

maine road is still home for me ? it feels like i am a homing pigeon and know how to get there with my eye shuts
my DNA is all over maine road and will be forever more
We used to park in one of the side streets off Yew Tree lane and walk up past the Platt Lane complex unless I was getting the train in for a night match. Then we'd get off the bus on Oxford Road and walk up Clairmont Road. Used to love the walk in. Not so much on the way out through the side streets at the back of the Kippax on a dark winters evening...

I miss that place.
