Major mistakes of MCFC?

Undoubtedly bringing Allison back as manager in the late seventies. If you think Hughes' tenure was bad for the club, it was nothing compared to what Allison did. Bringing in (with Swales' backing, of course) hugely over-rated and overpriced players while at the same time breaking up a fantastic side that finished runners up to Liverpool by a single point only a couple of years previously. Such was the financial timebomb he set off, we're only getting over it these past few years. The guy was a brilliant coach, but an unmitigated disaster as a manager.

I know for a fact that Pearce and Wigley were very keen on Darren Bent and could've had him for around £3.5 in the summer of 2005.
Unfortunately they weren't 100% sure and we bought Samaras in the following January, thinking he was a better bet!

Dont see the need to suddenly knock our club at this time to be honest but I'll have my say .
Yes there have been errors but so has every club, ours without doubt has two that stand way above all others.

1, sacking Joe mercer. Now THAT set us back as far as anything could.
2, appointing Alan fucking Ball. That almost sent us under.

Nothing Hughes did, or redevelopment of Maine road or even John Maddox ( good shout though pidge) did comes close to these two errors.

In my lifetime its got to be that one.

There are certainly a few things that need clearing up.

Swales was a blue, but he was as bent as a nine bob note with some of the deals he got the club involved in, one of the key men getting rid of Joe Mercer so never liked the c*nt.

Big Mal was a f*cking genius and only thanks to Swales failed, he ripped an average side apart and rebuilt with young players only for swales to pull the money needed to Finnish the job, Bond brought in a defensive midfield player (Gerry Gow) and an old head with a few games left in him (Tommy Hutch), we ended up in two semi finals and were robbed against liverpool as a statement of fact.

Numpty hughes was without doubt this clubs biggest ever f*ck up, he damaged the club at every level including the back room & admin staff, he spent a shed load on overrated and overpriced shite players, an then put them on contracts we are still paying for now.
He was a whining c*nt in every interview he ever gave, had the tactical no how of a three year old yoghurt, and that bad as a manager he made me wish for Alan Ball back (He was just useless).

Yep. Just remembering the flat cap and squeaky voice makes me cringe, never mind the football, relegation, Buster Phillips being worth £10m....

It was all part of a wonderful masterplan to deliver us to where we are today.

To be a top European club having been run like an amateur circus in the last 30 years makes us richer for the experience.

If we ever go on to win it, I would like to see the Champions League trophy displayed alongside the 'Cup for Cock-Ups' to act as a reminder of the incredible journey that we've been on.

People slagging Swales off. Deep down we knew he was a blue and although a bit incompetent and light years away from where we are now he tried his best. If I remember rightly the minutes silence on his death was impeccably observed from where I was stood on the kippax.
