Spoke with the Premier League representative from Nike yesterday while I was working at the Villa V Norwich game, and I asked about City's deal and future kits.

He wouldn't give much away, other than City have full control of design and direction of all kits and clothing, Nike have spent a lot of time looking into the history and tradition of City's kits, and he said we will not be disappointed as fans with next seasons kits, and the manager has also had involvement in the designs.

Can't see why Mancini would have anything to do with the design.

He's been asked to add input

I'm not doubting you mate I just don't see the point. He's not a designer and he doesn't have any historical link to us.

Nike kits look cheap and shit, gutted about this. A generic template for all the teams, just a different colour

Suppose it's all good for sponsors and income, ffp etc. After Fulham i met up with one of my old mates who i've not seen for a few years who works for Umbro, i was asking him about the stuff he does with us and how i was gutted we we're changing. He told me about Nike completley taking them over althogether which was confirmed last week i think but he told me Nike wanted to get City and England on their books for the money side of it and reputation and all that stuff which obviously is done with us and England will have Nike kits for 2013, and the team he works for who do stuff with out kits are still going to be designing them, just a nike logo stuck on it and all their materials etc. apparently Nike are keen to get us to use us as a product face and selling point, also they are getting a deal with Joe Hart so he wears nike boots, gloves and all that not sure how it works. Just hope they are along the lines of what we've had the last few years, had some classic kits

I think you're reading too much into it, or I didn't word it too well, but it sounded like Mancini was shown several designs and he simply said which he liked and his preference, for example no purple on the away kit or training gear.

As for the mention of a generic kit that is produced in our club colour, that sounds very, very unlikely to me from what I was told, Nike group the clubs they are associated with into different levels, and some clubs effectively get told what they will be wearing design wise, City are in the highest level and will receive a very large amount of money as part of the deal, and have full control over the kit.

Also, the manager will relay what the players feel too, so if there is anything that they have to say, I'm sure that will be passed on. After all, they're the ones playing in it all the time.

As a bit of a side issue, have you noticed how this seasons kits seem to hold sweat quite badly? I'm sure it must be uncomfortable when your shirt is sticking to you. Not saying that it's a reason for playing badly or anything but a golfer, for example, may decide to wear sunglasses whatever the weather because cutting down glare means that it's one thing that's not causing him (or her) an issue when playing a shot. Having to squint your eyes affects your muscle movement all over the body to a certain degree and at the very top of the game can affect a shot. At that level, a micro movement (especially an involuntary one) can make all the difference to a tournament winning drive or not. It might sound daft but these are the kind of things that top level sportsmen think about. Cutting out the variables which can detract from your performance. I suppose wearing the undershirts is another one. Making sure that muscles are kept warm to avoid strains and pulls and to keep the player comfortable. The more comfortable you feel, the better you play.

Thats true. When I was playing rugby we once had a coach who made us clean our teeth before we left the dressing room before games. We thought he was mad but he insisted we all did it for that reason

I had a PE teacher who before we started a rugby match would make us all dive into the muddiest, wettest, part of the field.
We would have them old polyester shirts on and end up looking like Fran Cotton before the game even started.
Someone complained once and he told us it was to put a bit of weight on us as we were 5ft nothing inner city kids up against Grammar school lads twice our size.
We used to get beat 50 and 60 points to nil. He was a cockney but played for Manchester Rugby Union club.
"Character you spineless git's" was one of his favorites from the touchline.

He`d also be the spokesman for the players as well and maybe not in the actual design but l would imagine what they like and dislike ref materials etc.
IMO it makes sense to have Bobbys and the Players input.
As fans we only have to wear the fuckers and pay out £60+ no doubt. ;)

Went to a big outlet mall the other day that has been stuck out in the middle of the desert over here. Can't stand Nike gear for anything, but the missus wanted to have a look in their store, so in we went.

What greeted us was a railing of various football shirts from the last 5 years that covered one entire wall of the shop. Without exception, it was all just garish, poorly fitted, badly designed, cheap-looking shite, whether it was Arsenal, united, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Brazil, France or any of the other teams unfortunate enough to be associated with them. None of them had properly embroidered badges either; they were all sewn-on patches or iron-on transfers.

I also noticed that all their training/leisure gear is identical for all their teams, just done in different colours and with different badges ironed on the front. Unless they have an urgent injection of imagination, these wankers are going to have City fans walking around in the very same shite they produce for United fans.

While this deal will undoubtedly secure the club tons of extra income, that's the end of me buying stuff from the club. Which, at 32, is very welcome and long overdue.
