Man City vs Reading - Post Match Discussion

The thing that did piss me off today was the constant time wasting, kicking the ball dead after Joe Hart had stopped play for one of their players, (a right twats trick,) walking off when 'Injured' via the longest route possible and a goalie who did everything but light a fag before returning the ball to play. I had some sort of affection for Reading prior to today but not now, their manager was saying in some interview or other that he would always try to win, no matter who they played. Bollox. If he wanted to play all in defence, why not say so?
A bloke next to me was fucking apoplectic; rightly so.

yaya dictates a lot of our attacking shape, today he tried to finesse the moves with pinpoint passes, notably ignoring the wide options.
i thought last season we were too reliant on him, and same this season,we definitely need another threat from midfield, a world class playmaker. Not asking for much : ) but could be the cornerstone to becoming a truly dominant team. We aren't far off

If we had scored an early goal, it would have been a cricket score. Rags always start at a high tempo for precisely this reason. Getting the bus off the line early will solve the problem in no time.

I always enjoy a last minute winner, though, it has to be said.

Have just seen the Gaz Baz goal again. Was perfectly legitimate.

And that's why we're champions.

For me, if we had conceded that goal, I'd be wondering why our defender is trying to block a run by bending over rather than jumping or standing straight?

EDIT: Just noticed the handball. Since it wasn't mentioned on the commentary and only spotted in slow-mo after-match replays, that's probably why it wasn't given. Not sure if it's as blatant as Savage says. His hand's not away from his body, but since he's half-crouched and his arm is straight down, it would be bloody difficult to get your hand out of the away unless you had 2 elbows.

Yeah hard to tell first time round but the defender clearly makes no effort to play the ball. If there's a foul in there it's just trying to block Barry off, which would have been a pen. Either way, you can't complain.

It was a bad goal for Reading to concede.

Dire and lucky, hmmmm. I genuinely don't know where people get this negativity from. Please explain to me how we were lucky? We absolutely battered them in the first half, dropped a bit in the 2nd but the effort was still there and eventually got the goal we DESERVED.

Reading were lucky they only lost by 1. You saying we were lucky is basically saying we didn't deserve to win the game. Is that seriously what you think?

DIRE - where do you go from there when we actually play badly and lose a game? What are the levels below dire? I'm genuinely fascinated because to me it looks like a load of nonsense hyperbole and exaggeration.

PACE - when you're facing 9 defenders 30 yards from their own goal line pace is as much use as a chocolate fireguard. You need pace when there is space in behind the defence, of which there was none. Or when counter-attacking, and considering they barely had the ball in our half, the oppurtunities for that were extremely limited.

Spot on
I agree.
+1
Some of the comments on this thread are fucking unbelievable.

We had three shots on target.
Reading should have had a penalty when Nasty used his in our own box.

Yes I'd say we had our fair share of luck today. Not that we couldn't have won the game without it, but we clearly had some luck.

Looking at the replays, it should have been a penalty for the handball by Nastassic (Rekik and Tabb was just a collision, nothing more).

reading parked the bus from the first minute and we had many chances throughout but not the final touch. we definitely deserved the 3 points

thank the lord for mancini time!

Nastasic's hand was by his side and from the replay it looks like he was trying to move it away. The ball was fired at him from 5 yards. If that was a pen then Pearce hauling down Toure was as nailed on a penalty as you'll ever see.

Oh, and if a defender blocks a shot that is clearly going in then that counts as a shot on target in my book, there were 10 of them.

It wasn't a pen because it wasn't handball. According the the laws of the game an offense of handball occurs when a player deliberately puts his hand to ball the other criteria is when the ball hits the hand and its in a unnatural postion

I saw nothing on MOTD to suggest that Reading should have had a definite penalty ... to me it looks like Nastasic attempts to pull his arm our of the way , and the following collision involving Rekik was just that ... a collision !

West Ham scored an almost identical goal to Gareth Barrys a few weeks ago against Chelsea , and that stood , and i don't really see what else Barry could have done really ...... he was determined to reach the cross and the Reading player involved made absolutely no attempt to try to clear it in any way , even before Barry lunged forward and headed it in.

TO BE FAIR TO READING I DON'T THINK ANY OTHER SIDE WILL DEFEND AS WELL AS THEY DID AT THE ETIHAD TODAY , EVEN UNITED CONCEDED TWICE AT CITY ...... ASIDE FROM BARRYS GOAL THAT WAS A TOP CLASS DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE FROM READING , THEY WORKED THIER SOCKS OFF AND WERE WELL ORGANISED , AND IT WAS ALMOST CERTAINLY THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE SEASON.

(and i've deliberately stressed that to highlight why it was so difficult for City )
