Man notified of burglary via app goes home murders burglar [Liverpool]

Sure and if you are in and you and your family’s lives are in danger, then you have a different scenario.

If you aren’t in, have no threat to your life and you return back tooled up, then you get what you deserve. Likely a life stretch in prison.
Well we can leave it there and disagree.

Actually - go home, stab them in the head, walk a few steps and thing “nah, am not quite done here”, walk back in and slit their throat.

I’d be checking under the bloke’s patio for ex wives and dead kids if I were the police.
Wonder if he’s got one of those lock ups in one of those Self Storage places.

Storage hunters would be a different show when they bid on his lock up!

If you like. Where would you draw the line?

If someone nicked your phone in a pub, should you be able to kill them?
Home invasion is the line for me. Home is a person's physical and mental safehouse and to have that torn apart in extremely traumatic circumstances is enough for me. If someone's robbing your gaff and you neutralise them then to me it's fair enough.

No, I don't think petty theft in a public place warrants that. That should be the domain of the bobbies we don't have.

So “your property is your property” doesn’t really apply, apart from in the instance of home burglary.

If you were on holiday, saw people breaking in to your house via your doorbell, would you phone the police, or track them down independently and kill them?

If you we’re having a meal close by to your house and saw people breaking into your house via your doorbell, would you phone the police, or pick up your steak knife and rush home to kill them?

Contrast it with these two cases.

Elderly man who would be most likely to have been killed himself had he not used the knife.

Man threatened with violence who overreacted.

Neither compare to the savage attack described in the link in the OP.

People that think that reaction is okay, just aren't normal.

I'm thinking 95% of people would phone the cops. Sounds like these two went round to kill. I think there is more to this story, like they knew who the guy was.

Your property as in the place you live, yes. When you buy a phone, you're not buying a property.

If an intruder ends up in your home and they end up dead as a result of the homeowner actively defending their property, there should not be a murder charge.

That answers both of your hypotheticals and all future ones.
