Man notified of burglary via app goes home murders burglar [Liverpool]

If you have chose not to ring the police after seeing 3 men in your gaff, kinda makes me think he knew them or he didn't want the police inside his house, which is obviously stupid after then murdering one of them.

Interesting case anyway, if he gets away with it could be all types of new ways of setting people up to be killed.

I wouldn't attribute common sense to a jury.

Nonetheless, my threshold for reasonable and proportionate is clearly higher in this regard.
Why wouldn’t you attribute common sense to a jury? The system has worked for centuries.

Your threshold may be higher than others, but you haven’t heard all the evidence and already made your mind up that the burglar was fair game.

For me, them deciding to travel back to their home armed with knives and his decision to stab the burglar in the eye, then return to slit his throat not only suggests premeditation, but also calculation by returning to strike the second blow. It’s harder to prove diminished responsibility because of that.

If I were on the jury, given the evidence on here so far, I would be leaning towards a guilty verdict, unless there were mitigating self defence circumstances.

A not guilty verdict would also set a precedent if making anyone committing a crime as potentially fair game to kill.

Well, in my view, they should be fair game. Otherwise what's the incentive not to burgle if you know the homeowner can't defend themselves for fear of killing you and getting a trumped up murder charge?

If I were Cancelo, for example, I'd be happier leaving security at home with my family knowing they can knock seven bells out of any intruder who sensed an opportunity because he is out playing a match.

They aren’t the same. Cancelo potentially killing a burglar defending his family is not the same as seeing someone on your doorbell and deciding to go home and kill them.

If they end up in your house, it's the same. Your property is your property.

Actually - go home, stab them in the head, walk a few steps and think “nah, am not quite done here”, walk back in and slit their throat.

I’d be checking under the bloke’s patio for ex wives and dead kids if I were the police.
