Manc or not (Merged)

Not.

I'm a southerner. Born and bred in Folkestone, Kent - right on the beachfront.

Been an avid Blue since the 60's, travelling up to the north west as a kid of 13 with my mate and his dad and uncle. Being petrified in the Kippax surrounded by thousands of people with strange accents, and the noise...fucking incredible (for a kid, anyway).
Got Alan Oakes's autograph on my programme one time and cradled it preciously in my arms on the train all the way back to Kent. Showed it to all the kids at school a few days later and I was a hero.

Forty-odd years later Manchester City Football Club is so indelibly stamped upon my soul it's as if I am a part of the club's history - which in a perverse sort of way I suppose I am.

Regardless of who you are or where you're from, if you support Man City you're my brother (or sister, sorry ladies!).

Dads A Manc, Mum supports Villa.. when I was born apparently whole side of mums family tried to bring me up a villa fan, but Dad put his foot down....Thank God!!

Not.

Dad's Glaswegian, Mum's from Malta (English Origin) and I was born in South Africa.

Dad is a big Rangers fan but City were always his English team. Mum and Dad separated and Mum got with a City fan when I was 4. Always seemed natural to me really!

Live in Bristol where there are a suprising number of Blues, Manc or not.....

Dunno really!

Mam n all her family are 3rd generation Moss Side (Polish) and I was born in St Mary's Hospital. I shop, drink, chill and live half the week in Manchester city centre; I go to watch my footy team who are City in Manchester; I work in Wytenshawe which is where about 1/3 of my family live!

But my Dads from Timperley (The Broomwood) and I grew up and still live in Timperley! Timperley Village is about 50 steps from the boarder of The Metropolitan Borough of Manchester, but is actually in Trafford!

I consider myself to be Mancunian but I also consider United to be a Manchester club - many City fans still have this silly out of fashion 90's jibe at United about not being in Manchester! But over the next 5-10 years many of these people who still use this jibe will find it complete nonesense as Greater Manchester will go the same way Greater London went a few years ago - it'll just be Manchester!

So some will think I'm not Mancunian, some aren't as finicky!

Born in Park Hospital, Davyhulme raised in Irlam. Irish parents and my old fella choose to follow City when he moved over in the early 60's along with my uncle. They are both still City season ticket holders and have had the pleasure of seeing us win the league at Newcastle in 68. I started going in 76 and was a season ticket holder until a few years ago when I moved to France. I watched City home and away for many years and hardly missed a game during our lowest point. Still get over for games(not as much as I'd like) but we now have a small group of City fans who watch games together in Paris. I consider myself - Manc even though Irlam is in Salford. Too many rags in Irlam but some of the most loyal blues I know live there and unlike the rags they go to the games.

Born in Bury General but lived in Prestwich when I got the bus to Maine Road from the top of Kings Road and then moved to Chorlton from where I could walk it with my ST back in 76.

Salfordian.

Not a single Blue on my Mum and Dad's side. Dad was even on United's books until being released at 16.

First games I was taken to were at Old Trafford, including a couple of European games, when I was 8 years old in 1984. I hated the place and the people instantly. My Dad hadn't been for years and was also taken aback by how much things had changed (he never went a massive amount anyway due to him playing semi-pro).

Then, I remember the day vividly, I was pissing about on my bike outside and my Dad comes out, "Fancy going to Maine Road?" "Where?" "Maine Road, City's ground. They're playing Crystal Palace." "Yeah. Ok."

No word of a lie, I fell in love with the place instantly. Bearing in mind I'd been to a packed Old Trafford for European games, I was now at a 2nd Division game (1984-85 season) with the ground at 2/3 capacity at best but I loved it and I was hooked. The best thing was, so was my Dad! We've been going ever since and his season ticket is next to me. He hates the c*nts with a passion. Bizarre in a way.

Just remember, it takes a 'special' kind of crowd and club which makes an eight year old think, "Who are these bellends? It's shit here" and to make a grown man change allegiances - but it takes a genuinely special club to provide a real alternative.

We chose City rather than City choosing us. I'm proud of that.
