How awful are these buildings? To think of the beautiful Town Hall, the Central Library and I could go on. These are nothing short of hideous, no imagination from the highly paid architects.

A song about a changing city, Dublin. It could also apply to Manchester as the city centre changes so quickly. Unfortunately as its from you tube you may have to skip an advert.

Agreed, 100%. Some of the new buildings going up are okay-ish. But let's be honest; most of them are fugly. Like you, I love the old buildings around the City centre. Chetham's, the cathedral, the Town Hall, the Refuge Tower, the Free Trade Hall etc etc

Slightly off topic.

Interesting news.

It will give Manchester’s already thriving culture scene another huge boost.

I wonder if a new venue will be built or an existing venue will be used? You’d think Factory International would be the ideal venue for ENO.

English National Opera (ENO) and Greater Manchester are pleased to announce a new working partnership to develop a new home for the opera company.

The company had a shortlist of five places where it was considering setting up a new headquarters, with Manchester, the biggest city in Europe without a resident opera company, always the favourite. The other cities were Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Nottingham.

The partnership will see ENO and Greater Manchester work together on plans to bring the company’s globally renowned cultural offer to a main base in the city-region by 2029.
