Manchester’s Changing Skyline

More good news.

The stalled Modern Surf proposal in Trafford Park is back on track.

Scottish outfit Tartan Leisure has been brought in to lead the project, replacing McKinney Group more than two years after the council granted approval for the inland lagoon.

Tartan Leisure has now been appointed to deliver the £75m attraction and is partway through the construction of a similar facility in Edinburgh called Lost Shore Surf Resort.

The four developers behind plans for 700,000 sq ft of lab space and almost 2,000 student bedrooms across two connected projects off Upper Brook Street could be in line for an early Christmas present when the city council’s planning committee meets next week.

Manchester City Council is expected to give the go-ahead to the projects, which have a combined GDV of £450m and are being developed by Property Alliance Group, Moda, McLaren Property, and Kadans.

Aeroflair - I stagram

First picture.

You could honestly mistake that for a part of New York.

Drove past the Therme Manchester site this morning.

There was what looked like a soil rig and workers onsite.

Hopefully it's not another false dawn and construction will start early next year?

If it wasn’t for the old Co-op tower, I’d be hard-pressed to recognise this as the place I grew up in and left in 1994 (although with fairly frequent visits back every year). I know some people, including mates of mine who still live there, say town isn’t what it used to be, but cities need to progress as they are ultimately the world’s catalysts both culturally and economically. I love the way the city is heading.

You read a lot about Manchester 'losing its soul' whatever that means.
They really don't understand Manchester.

I’m not one to repost other peoples pictures from SSC-MCR, so I’ll post a link, forum username, and the post number.

The 1st section of cladding has gone on to the 1st River Gardens tower. Picture by Visionary8, Post 3,041. (first post on the page)

Pictures from the public consultation that took place on Monday showing new CGI’s and models. If all the towers get built shown in the models, Manchester is going to have one of the best looking skylines in Europe, never mind in the UK. Amazing!

Pictures by City Veteran, post 407.

The construction thread is well worth keeping an eye on, with updated daily pictures by the forum members of the construction sites across the city centre.
