Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

If I was the police officer in that situation I may have used extreme force because I may have been concerned that, with all the agitated onlookers, there may have been additional threats incoming. So in my opinion the level of force to securely incapacitate an offender was justified.

Plus, anyone attacking an armed officer with that level of vigour obviously has no respect for the law and I’d be concerned that the aggressors would do whatever it took to get their way.
I get the police are professionals and need to be seen to act in professional manner but they are human and anyone who has been in stressful threatening unpredictable situations Would know how difficult it is to perform everything to the book . Top and bottom of it police would not been involved if assailants hadn’t acted as they did.the buck stops with them!

It was on the BBC website that this fucking idiot ( the younger brother) has admitted to punching a police officer 4 times in the altercation last year.
And he wouldn't change anything about what he did, even if he had the chance to go back in time.
Talk about giving yourself enough rope to hang yourself.
I can't see any jury believe a word he has said in court.
"I rest my case M'Lud" .

He’d have hit him more that 4 times if he hadn’t elbowed his mother by accident and she fell down.

I didn't realize that. So he accidentally injured his mother amongst all the mayhem.
And it's ironic that it was her that began the sequence of events after her argument with the guy on the plane from Pakistan.

"Is there anything about your behaviour that you would change?"

"No," the defendant (Amaad) replied.

Oh dear.

It is quite frankly one of the most one sided court cases I've seen in a long while.
Hopefully they get jailed tomorrow

I wont talk out of school like but shit Ive been involved in and the level of violence aimed at me just doing the same job down the years now is mental. Trust me, people are cunts. Had to have some time out this time last year after a particularly bad doo, really bad, at the hands of villains and Im a pretty robust old Gene Hunt style long standing detective who generally is known in the district here who doesnt take much shit, but found myself in a very scary situation. The cops are not bad people mind, Ive actually never met better people than the team I run now. These cunts in the airport will get whats coming unless the jury are flaky wankers or internet affected which is always a risk these days

That report states that it was the closing statement by the defence lawyer, and the jury are expected to be sent out to deliberate on their verdict on Monday.
I don't expect them to be out long, based on all the evidence presented in court.

If only we had a black hanky to put on the judges head.

You never know mate. If it was a crime against the public in that airport then yes, but so many people just have an inbuilt dislike of police that you cant tell. Some deeply ingrained thoughts may play out in deliberations, and I personally wouldnt be surprised, though obviously disappointed, if that jury ends up unable to reach a decision. Remember now, there was foaming at the mouth grade outrage when that clip of the copper kicking and stamping was first spread out on social media without any wider context before facts were known, including real non informed hostility on this very forum. Those things stick in the minds of people, particularly if they dont care much for police

Even if nothing was proved about the assault on 3 police officers going about their sworn duty, there is also the fact that one of them launched an assault ( a head butt) on a member of the public in Starbucks.
That assault alone should get him 5 years at His Majesty's Pleasure.

I dont think they have been charged with any assaults on members of the public though. Happy to be corrected on this btw, not 100% sure. But if Im right, they wont and cant be convicted on any other crime against non coppers

I've just checked on the CPS website, and you are correct in that they have only been charged with assaulting the police officers. I still think that the younger brother will get a minimum of 5 years inside.
We should find out soon enough.

So he fought/attacked the police because he didn't know they were the police and because he was afraid the police , who he didn't recognize as police, would beat him to death while he was laying on the ground. He has great respect for the police since he has a number of family members who are police but he fears that they all want to beat him to death randomly.

How can he say he didn't recognise the police?

What did he think the police uniforms were, fancy dress?
Worked for Harry liar Maguire

Assuming the verdict expected today? Can’t see the jury needing too much time to deliberate on a verdict given the video evidence presented?
