Manchester City Millions Ruin Football

This is what a lot of City fans seem to think, that we're jealous of your money. We're not in any way. Your stadium is still half empty every other week. There's still no atmosphere at the COMS. Your supporters even copy another clubs celebration when your team scores. Whenever I go on holiday, I still see Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal shirts in many bars and resorts. Not a City one in sight.

I'd never trade our history, reputation and honours for oil money. Never.
That stadium thats sold out every league game this season is "half empty"?

Do a bit of research first you clown. Still got better attendances than you, so much for your history.

You go scrap to stay in the league with your history, I would rather be top of the league but each to their own yeah?

I can't believe I'm replying to a post that spouts the same old hackneyed bullshit we've had to put up with since September 1st 2008 but here goes:

1) If you're not jealous of our money then how do you explain the vitriolic bitterness towards us that exists amongst some (though not all) of your fans?

2) Our stadium isn't half empty every other week. While we don't have anywhere near as many fans as Liverpool, all 11 home league games played so far this season have been sell outs in the home sections of the ground. We did have a crowd of 36,000 against you in the semi-final 1st leg of the Carling Cup the other week but looking at the attendance against United a few days before, it was obvious that a good percentage of our fans prioritised that game over the one against you. Personally, if I had to pick one over the other then I'd have chosen the semi-final. Not because you're bigger opposition than United (which you're not) but purely because it was a semi-final. But that's my own preference - obviously a lot of our fans viewed it differently.

3) The atmosphere at our home games is indeed poor at times but I've lost count of the amount of occasions I've been to Anfield and, save for that manufactured rendition of YNWA prior to kick-off and sometimes near the end (I say sometimes because it usually depends on if you're winning), it rapidly descends into an atmosphere every bit as piss poor as our home games.

4) We copied another team's celebration who in turn copied it off another team themselves. Big deal. You've copied plenty of songs down the years from other clubs (as we and other clubs have done). You even copied YNWA off United (though you won't get many of their fans admitting to singing it in the early 60's)

5) By being taken over, we haven't traded our reputation, history, and honours for oil money. All that still exists.

I agree that it's not Manchester City's fault. I'm just calling for a bit of reasoning here. For years, ourselves, City supporters, Arsenal supporters etc took the piss out of Chelsea for "buying trophies" and that they wouldn't be anywhere without money because they were a medium sized club compared to the likes of Arsenal.

This now applies to Manchester City, who, if we're being honest, isn't even the biggest club in Manchester.

Yep you're right - Gareth Barry, Jolean Lescott, Gael Clichy and Savic would get into any team in Europe.

Two things. Firstly, if 'oil money' is bad then why was your club whoring it's way around the middle east? DIC ring any bells.

And slagging off Barry when the great RAFA wanted him as well. Dear oh dear you do have selective memory.

Your wind up is pretty piss poor though in all fairness. Now fuck off back to RAWK where you can wallow with the rest of the fuckers about istreeeeeeeeee and such things.

History is what what makes BIG clubs. Liverpool can be mentioned in the same breath as Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and I hate to admit it; Manchester United.

Don't knock it.
the difference between Liverpool and the teams you have mentioned is that they are still major clubs in world football, challenging for trophies your now an after thought.

Edit this points already been made!

I'll answer in stages, so you can actually understand.

1. You are jealous. Why would you come on a City forum and refer to it as "oil money" in that bitter, hateful way?

2. We've sold out every home game this season, bar one, against you lot, when the club were asked to charge £40 a mid-week game in England's "third cup", so to speak.

3. Anfield is as quiet as a library until you have to win a Champions' League game against a poor eastern-European team to struggle through.

4. Yes, and we openly admit that we copied it when we sing "Let's all do the Poznan" whilst jumping up and down.

5. It doesn't matter if you see shirts anywhere. What matters is one sight and one sight only: us in 1st, and you in 7th.

You hold on to your history, because it'll be all you've got in a few years. Fuck off our forum - now.

They used to say the same thing at Preston.

In fairness, that could be their 'derby' in a few years time.

So you campaigned vigorously in favour of selling to Hicks & Gillett and against DIC I assume?

Crewe aren't happy with either of us. ;o)

If it were not for 'rich owners' the Premiership would have been won EVERY year apart from 3 by Manchester United. How is that good for the game?

Most City fans I know at the time didn't begrudge Chelsea spending shed loads of money because it didn't effect us. We were never gonna compete at the top end back then, infact most City fans I know were quite happy to see another team challenge United and stop them a few times.

The Premiership created this monster and now that the journos faves are seeing a challenge to their beloved dynasty they don't like it. The journos of the op's link were quite happy to let United win it forever more whilst telling us it was the most exciting league in the world.

Well journos move over there's a new sheriff in town
