Manchester City vs. AC Milan Post-Match Discussion Thread

micah richards was great, cant believe posters on here think hes crap

MOTM for me, some fantastic attacking runs that we should have made more of really even though we scored 5! Couldn't really fault him for their goals either.

Also although it's never a popular opinion on here I thought Kolarov had a decent game overall.

Watching from the 3rd level halfway line. 442 with high line and both fullbacks pushing on. First 35 were great. Navas and jovetic were great ferdi ok but didn't stand out. Silva looked good on the left. Both cb were terrible but Garcia especially so. Second half we had no left side and yaya and Rod weren't comfortable together. Lots of discussion about who goes up and who stays back. Lots of work to be done but lots of potential.
Nice to hear a view from pitch side you lucky bastard :)
How was the atmosphere and were there many Blues there?

I don't know about Lescott. I didn't think he was too bad. He's not mobile like Kompany, Nasty and Garcia so he stays more behind than them, he just didn't have a better partner like Kompany.
You can't stay "more behind" when playing a high line offside trap. Jeez...

We can't rely on Garcia or Lescott to cover for Nasty, and Kolarov shows why we need cover for Clichy. This needs addressing, but going forward, we are looking quite tasty.

At this point, Lescott looks extremely out of place.

He only looks out of place because of how poor his partner is. If he was partnered with Kompany, he would be the same as usual. He's a follower who gains confidence through the leadership and unequivocal approach from our captain.

i think rodwell looked good when he came on, for a young lad i think he will be a future star for us.

imo we wont have a settled starting 11 the squad is that good

Pleased with the new signings. All looking good. The most important lesson from today is that if we're playing a high line, Lescott and Garcia ain't going to cut it. In fact even our first-choice pairings would be vulnerable and we will most likely need to deploy a covering midfielder.

Agreed. Rodwell injury free is a great player.
As long as they all see some action with squad rotation then I think the boss might just keep everybody happy!

I wish people would stop saying it's just pre - season.

These games are going to be instrumental in our confidence going into the Champions League, if we beat Bayern tomorrow can you imagine how that will make the team feel, they will feel the can take anybody on.

Shipping three goals like we did was a disgrace, attacking wise we looked world class.

I think we are starting to see who are best players though now.

I would of liked Yaya to be rested a bit, will he play again tomorrow?? If he doesn't we will get tonked in midfield.

Barry looks inferior to Fernandinho at the moment for me as well.

Think thats nonsense to be fair. Pre season friendlies don't replicate meaningful games in personnel, atmosphere, tactics, how they are reffed etc etc.

Do you think Bayern would fear us in the champions league if we dick them tomorrow?

It's about making us feel bigger and better than anybody else.

If we get tonked tomorrow, do you think we will go into the CL confident??

It's all about confidence in these games so that when we come up against them again we have the mentality in the back of our minds that we have beaten them in the past so why can't we beat them again.
