I would not say that a midfield trio of Fernando-Fernandinho-Yaya is lot more defensive at home...
With this Yaya gets full license to never track back (sometimes he does this with a midfield duo too..) and play lot closer to the opponent goal. As near to it as Jovetic did last week maybe...
Also dont forget Fernandinho who can be a great box-to-box and arrive up to attacks behind Yaya, can make a long shot, can put it behind the defence, we didnt se much of these last season as he was used a def. midfielder which meant his attacking abilities were cut out of his game most of the time.
This two things, Fernandinho with more forward runs causing some Pool players have to track him also Yaya playing lot closer to goal (with a long shot from 20 meters he can score any moment...) we pprobably can be just as attacking if we would have two strikers on the pitch.
As Pellegrini said dzeko now finally does all the right runs too to involve others into attacks and if those small places are found by others like Silva, Nasri, Navas then we can score goals with only one striker upfront. As long as he makes the important channels for others. Good example was vs Newcastle first goal, Dzeko moves to the left, Silva (and Jovetic) arriving well for the open place, great assist and good goal. In that goal we knew we want it to do like this, and very hard for defenders to think 2-3 steps ahead of us.
Pool is a very good team, with a very good attacking style, that causes all sort of problems to any team they play when they are on top form. Now they arent yet probably but neither are we...
We struggled against their attacks last season in both games, both games we easily could have conceded more than we ended up ith, wonder how high line our defence will be now, because on counters vs Sturridge, Sterling it could get nasty. Coutinho is rea talent, while Gerrard can pick some long passes so we have to make sure none of these great assists are going trough, and not just react to when they are already being put behind the defence. From watching back City-Pool games from last season, we have to improve in these defensively.
With Skrtel and Lovren at them, corners must be defended very well, would be cheap to go behind or even drop points because of a corner goal. They are scoring fair amount of goals from set pieces so that is an extra danger tonight.
Maybe I am too defensive, but you know, if we could keep a clean sheet tonight, there is 99% that 3 points is ours.:)
If we concede 2-3 goals, we still can win but lose too and mostly we would draw and dont think a draw is good vs them at home. (Away from home yes...)
But lets win in 4-3:), even if my feeling is both managers will be little like "don not lose a big game this early", so expect a tight but not crazy game in terms of throwing everything into attacks.
1-0 or 2-1 to City.
