Manchester Evening News

What I don't understand is why the MEN would write overly negative City and United stories. Surely their target audience is both sets of fans and they can write articles with constructed criticism and praise as well. Why on earth would a regional newspaper publish a snidey jibe of an article at one of their potential audiences? it is basic business to keep their readers on side.

If this is an article written to please the United audience then it says more about their fan base, that they need to criticise us rather than praise them to get them onside.

I wonder if Lynch has actually been used here.

Get a young staff member to write the article and let them take the shit for it.

Either way you have vague wishy washy contols in place regarding quality control at what is supposed to be a large company with decent standards of practice.
It is a bit farcical really imo, funny but farcical.

I do feel sorry for the decent reporters there as if i did read it would be a bit put off unless i was a red i suppose.

I think we need a banner "Boycott the MEN" - prominent so that its on Match of the Day etc... that will have people at Trinity Mirror asking questions about the idiots running the paper if we the fans formalise the protest.

Having had a quick flick through his old tweets,I'd hazard a guess it would be United.

The numpties on MOTD will think it's some sort of subtle anti Putin statement like the beer "Not for Gay's" ....... Although I'm sure Lawrenson will be appreciative ;)

You have to hand it to Ric.

We all post shit that annoys us every day.

Blondie here does the same and the largest City site in the world erupts, melts down and regional sports journalists do overtime in their underpants.

Good point. The real mistake is not that they have carried a critical article on the club. In fact it is their job to report the facts no matter how unpalatable. Here they have blundered by allowing an opinion piece which savages the fans (ie the customers). It is commercial madness to slag off your customers. There are still City fans who buy the paper, or pay for advertising, or buy products advertised in the paper. They will just vote with their wallets. Even if the story was accurate and based on facts it would be crazy to run it.
