Sad but true. Hits on the website are all that counts.

It does for some publications but this is different.
This particular story will get a lot of hits. However I don't think they could possibly not see the long term damage caused.

I never thought I would say this because I'm a journalist in the newspaper industry, but I won't be visiting the MEN website or buying the newspaper from now on. This isn't because I'm a sensitive soul jumping on a boycott but simply because that article displays gross incompetence and I will no longer waste my time with it.

If coming up with ill-founded, poorly written copy in the pursuit of some social media controversy is what he considers modern journalism then, quite frankly, he is a stain on the profession.

There is no agenda - this is just incompetence from a very needy reporter.
Blimey after all that has gone on in your industry in the past 40 years .

There are some incredible journalists out there doing vital work for society.
Then you have this clown chasing some twitter followers.
But like I say - the reason I won't be reading from now on is because I like reading well written, positive and negative, articles on city. This is now clearly no longer the case.

There is one thing that in our 4 decades of under achievement was never doubted ever by any section of the media, and that was the loyalty of the supporters. For me our loyalty is our history. Now because a few of our fans go for a piss our loyalty is questioned by the newspaper of our own city, it is unbelievable, and it is borne of the same arrogance that allowed scum fans to spit at kids and attack families at the Wembley semi final. Because they have had decades of mocking our under achievement, they now mock our loyalty and our success. This is truly shocking

For me that's the post of the night.

Brennan is a decent journo, as is Keegan, and they don't deserve to be associate with this absolute shite.

As others mentioned, Brennan has made the effort to engage the City community through participation and good reporting as a foil against his United supporting ways. I personally think that he's done an excellent job and there's not many people I trust in front of him when it comes to City. That's why I still consume the MEN. If he moved to another paper and continued his North West coverage, I'd start reading them instead and dump the MEN.

This one tiny article has delivered a body blow to the MEN, not because it was shite but because it shows that the editorial integrity is in the hands of the reporters without peer review.

The bit underlined especially.

Has anyone seen the new response on the MEN website by Stuart Brennan saying the game WAS sold out and we DO need expansion? Well done to him if it is genuine from Stuart, but I hope its not just to redress the failings of the newspaper.

Maybe Stuart Brennan will come back on here and further explain what's happened?

'Further explain'? Who gives a monkey's what he has to say?

Time to boycott this paper.
The paper's already boycotted mate don't worry about that and will continue to be, in a way I was tempting SB to come back on this thread and tell us what's happened behind the scene at the MEN. It does look like a damage limitation exercise, but if it's not he deserves some credit for getting involved and trying to wrong a right. We all have dicks at our workplaces and it's normally the good guys who have to cover for them or pull them out of the shit, on this occasion it seems like the scouse rag sympathiser over at the MEN is that dick.
(I won't start about the editor ffs, I'd be here all night)

Count me in - I'll join the boycott.
Oh, hang on, the MUEN doesn't get distributed in New Zealand - thank god.

I'll whisper this quietly.

AS A PUISHMENT THE CLUB SHOULD BAN THE MEN FROM THE BARCELONA GAME.(etc)

Bump it please.

I seriously hope citys PR are doing this ! A manchester local paper shitting on you crosses the line we need to BAN

The MEN is in affect suggesting that the expansion of the ground should not go ahead

Are they really suggesting that the club should not create all the jobs relating to the expansion of the ground? Are they really supporting people staying on the dole rather than by being found work?

Imagine the headline "We want more people on the dole says local newspaper"
