Come Wednesday against Sunderland, and if there are any empty seats visible, will Lynch and the MUEN be all over it, justifying their original article?

Not only that, will Lynch be at the Etihad again, or will the MUEN take him out of the firing line and send another Journo?

this is my last post on this matter(was made to look a dick by sb,but you live and learn) maybe some good will come from that article, maybe the men feel they will need to address the balance, and start printing positive articles, maybe city have had a word, because on the os stu brennans article in the men today gets a full airing, maybe the club have said enough is enough, start scratching our back and we will scratch yours.

I think it only right an proper that David Lynch should cover the next home match from the stadium. Perhaps we can chip in to purchase a hi-vis jacket with his name writ large on the back?

Not just restricted to footballing matters, can anyone conceive of any local newspaper up and down the land printing an article trying to question the efficacy of a substantial investment in their local area and the creation of a significant number of jobs for people within their readership? Or even going as far as putting a case against such an investment?

It simply would never happen because of the way their journalists are conditioned to think about such things. The fact that an MEN reporter did not think along those lines in this instance seems to say a great deal about the prevailing culture within that publication towards City.
I keep typing the start of a post and then cancel it as I keep going off at a tangent and there you go and plant one firmly and squarely on the nail's head.

Toma also mentions a lack of respect. The price of being arrivistes, to borrow from GDM. I know that we don't consider ourselves as such but "they" view us as chavvy Lotto winners.

It is going to take a long time to turn it around. To use yet another cliched saw "be careful what you wish for." As we know policies and competition formats based solely on protectionism are being given serious credence in the offices of Napoleon and the Dungeon Master. Whilst an article like Lynch's clearly has no individual bearing on that, the wider narrative it becomes part of paints City in such a negative light it does then create a perception of the club. That perception is very difficult to shake off and feeds lazy journalism. It's where "moneybags City" and "petrodollar spending" comes from. It creates throw away one liners and sound bites for "the man in the street" to latch on to. "Well, you know what City are like. Buying the league aren't they? Just a rich man's plaything. Sugar daddy club." No need to look beyond that, at the wider investment into East Manchester or the investment in youth etc. No, all that bears fruit in 5-10 years time, no immediate ROI so we can dismiss it from the debate.

Writers like Winter and Samuel are exceptions (although Henry got off on the wrong foot with us) and imho Brennan and Keegan have been like the curate's egg.

Anyway, I digress, my right of choice as a consumer has been exercised - and was a good while back.

I think we could go one better and track him in real time in the big screens, identifying him by..... you guessed it, a big red circle.

I'm sure SB knows full well that if he comes on here one way or another he's gonna be in for some grief. When your an individual addressing a complaint to the majority it's never gonna end with with smiley faces and pats on the back.

I'm certainly not excusing the atrocious nature of the article in the first place, just suggesting that as things stand he is undoubtedly the best link we have between us and the MEN at the moment. Those that would rather give him the verbals should be aware that desultory articles will probably still appear in future, and although we'll probably rant amongst ourselves it'll probably make very little difference. If SB was the guy giving the o.k. for editorials before they went to press, I would certainly see things differently, but it appears that this isn't the case.

I'm glad he came on here as there's no way on earth that we'd have been able to force MEN to print the response pieces. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt on the spelling mistake, as that response piece will have been produced in the heat of the furor and under pressure.
Nobody should underestimate the wrath of the forum - it is indeed a mighty one ;)

Don't worry its just the end of the rag dominance, they can't handle. They know they have a crap team with little potential of getting better, without spending money they don't have. The only thing they are clinging onto is that they are more popular with tourist fans. This is only temporary and we will soon be planning on extending the Collin Bell and East stands, as the new extended areas will also be sold out. Tick Tock.

It could be that the paper has either been briefed or it has taken upon itself to try and put a negative spin on the stadium expansion.

Why not write an article that may put doubts in the minds of the councillors on the planning committee who meet in six days time to discuss the building works

Maybe, just maybe, the MEN rags, or the real rags, are doing some shit stirring in the hope that they can derail our express

Oh for goodness sake squirty,I hope that was meant in jest ? If not what a pile of shit mate.

its far nearer the truth than the article!

perhaps you can answer the simple question,

what was thier motive ? the real one i mean.

I've told this story a few times on here and Im in danger of being a one-trick pony regarding it but it's pertinent to this so...

When I started writing for a fairly big website (bigger than MEN) I was asked to write an opinion piece on why a player should join City and not United. My remit was to 'wind a few United fans up' because their ire translates to hits.

So I did and it was my pleasure.

The response was incredible, the most extreme being a couple of death threats (plus all manner of 'I know where you live and Im going to chop your fucking hands off' rants) and me gaining a genuinely creepy online stalker who would comment wherever I was subsequently published with a plea to the publication not to hire me in future. This weirdo pieced together various info about me from my articles and would mention them in his rants beneath something else Id write in another publication entirely. Was unnerving.

Anyway I digress. When I got the threats I was elated. Bring it on. Its incredibly difficult to make a name for yourself in the modern media full of blogs and to stand out so it was all grist to the mill for me.

In this instance though - although I suspect the circumstances are similar in that the lad's boss has obviously told him to write an inflammatory piece to wind a set of supporters up - it is noticably different.

Firstly what he has written is a pack of lies. Pathetic, wumming untruths. Whereas mine was entirely opinion so I could stand by that.

Secondly, the response from most blues here isnt trolling abuse but rather a genuine anger.

And its an anger that has prompted the paper - who I suspect initially wanted this degree of response - to bottle it and backtrack furiously.

I may have read this all wrong but my feeling is that the lad will be thrown to the wolves after being asked to do something by an employer. I have little sympathy for him but that doesnt detract from who the real villains are here.

Ye sorry about that, don't know what came over me.

I`ve covered all this before, however to suggest that this could result in possible damage to our extension is as cringeworthy as the fucking article itself.Do you honestly believe that someone from MCC,gives a fuck what a spotty no-mark scouser thinks about our plans ?
Drama queens spring to mind.
