Manchester Low Emission Zone

Frustrating as we already pay enough in council tax for not much value other than having bins emptied once a month.

Public transport is pretty toss around Manchester and expensive for the service they provide. I don't always drink and sometimes drive in to town on nights out as it is safer or when collecting the Mrs etc.

I'm afraid Green initiatives will be an excuse to increase tax and revenue for the government. Fine but use the revenue to invest in infrastructure to improve green initiatives and EVs.

I work for a van hire firm. We seem to be trialing more Electric vans at the moment. As an example the VW Transporter on a full charge is less than 100 miles range. That’s before it carries any weight.
But no charge in the zone I presume.

I was looking at getting a VW camper but these are also affected by it. Would essentially mean paying £10 a day to get to work as I planned on using as my main vehicle. Holding off until nearer the time now as I expect the price of them to drop quite a bit on the back of it coming in. I’ll just buy a shitty petrol car as a runaround.
Even then I can't see vw prices dropping.

Council Tax is a tax much like Income Tax and not a charge for services provided. It is a contribution for the services provided by local authority. Whether someone benefits from all council services depends very much on the personal circumstances of those individuals concerned. Not everyone will benefit from all services provided.

All the charge is in the battery.

I drove into GM today and seen the the 'clean air signs' up for clean air zones - I live in Lancashire on the border and drive into GM - not sure how this will work as I have a diesel car....assume the charges will be coming at some point!

2 plumber mates where I work have old vans . The lads are 60 &61 yr olds and say soon has the tax comes in they are packing it all in . I’ve got a 59 plate golf and it’s exempt At The Moment, only a matter of time until all petrol & diesel cars have to pay .
