In other words they don’t give two fucks about the North.Because London contributes more to GDP and because more of the big knobs live there.

The airport ?Who else is going to pay it?
The Gmca have a 62% shareholding. It is spilt 29% for the outlying concils the rest for Manchester City Council. I wasn't talking about the 18 months of covid, they have taken profits out of the airport for years, long before covid, but not invested in the infrastructure.None of the airport is owned by the GMCA and dividends to the 10 LAs stopped due to COVID.
In one. The tories said they would electrify the Liverpool, Manchester Leeds, York rail link as it currently uses diesel. In other words they don’t give two fucks about the North.
Correct! In other words they don’t give two fucks about the North.
It's alright when I'm working in town. The Manchester Low Emission Zone is set to Start on the 22nd of May 2022. I understand Vans, Taxis HGVs and Busses will have to pay a charge if they do not meet emissions compliance. Private cars are to be exempt but charges will no doubt follow for these as is the way.
Firstly, its hard to argue against wanting to improve air quality in City Centres, But unlike London Manchester doesn't have a well funded integrated public transport system to take up commuter slack, also the vehicles above cant use public transport, which seems a little at odds with the aim?
Secondly is this not just a congestion charge in all but name, a congestion charge that people voted against?
The issue I see is if there isn't an alternative or people cant afford the alternative then surely this is just another local tax.
No. They have said cars are exempt. Lorries, buses taxis and just about anything else that isn't a car has to pay.Thought we voted against this? How have they gone against the public vote?
It's not a local decision, its controlled by Westminster.Thought we voted against this? How have they gone against the public vote?
