Manchester United (A) - Pre Match Thread

Nor me, I'm 77, biggest derby I can think we have been in. Come on City. !
For me, not that I’m 77, the biggest derby I can remember is the FACup semi final at Wembley when Yaya scored. That was a real breakthrough victory for us as a club, and ushered in the new era. In terms of mentality it was so, so important. I can still recall now the mix of hope and dread pre-match.
But Wednesday is still a biggie though!
I get what you're saying here but..... the Vinny Derby where we actually turned the tables on them and took control of the title race was the most important I can remember ever. Notwithsranding the FA cup semi final.... oh happy days!
FA Cup Semi, Sick Swan (first time we were expected to challenge for the title and both teams opportunity to stamp their authority on the title race) and Vinny derby were all far bigger.

To any of our resident United fans/lurkers, what team do you think you’ll put out on Wednesday? I’m guessing something like this, but could be miles off...

De Gea
Young
Lindelof
Smalling
Shaw
Matic
McTominay
Pogba
Lingard
Sanchez
Rashford

I think they will find a spot that tw## hererra probably in place of matic if so we have to play dave as him and mctominay have not got the brains to pick him up his runs.

Isn't he injured? Hope Matic is played, that Sigurdson goal today where he decided he'd done his job by slowing him down, switched off and let a long range shooter cut in on his stronger foot is exactly what I want to see in an opposition player.

It’s another balls out game. I just hope Manure throw men forward against us - so Raheem and maybe Leroy can motor into the space. Sergio always has his best games against Manure. But we need to be clinical with our shots on goal. In open play, they cannot compete.

How would we feel if Phil got a start in the Derby?. I don't think it would be to our disadvantage at all, a local lad who would be as buzzing as fuck, desperately wanting to stick one on the team he grew up hating. I wouldn't think twice about sticking him in the side.

Think the rags will have a more important game than ours v Chelsea at the weekend and that's the one they'll try & target. Much more relevant to the CL places.

The semi in 2011 was a huge game for both clubs. For us to show we'd arrived and for them to keep us in our place
The home derby the season after was again huge. A win put us ahead of them with two to play
This Wednesday is a cup final for us but almost a nothing game for them. They're playing for pride and from what I see they haven't any

It will be stupid of them to try to beat us and let their eternal rival Liverpool win the title with the possibility of lifting CL trophy and win the double. They should down tools and save their efforts for Chelsea fixture if they care about the dignity of their club. Either way, we should not let them get a sniff and score an early goal then try to manage the rest of the game.

Why do you think it’d be almost a nothing game for them? They’re at the bottom of the chasing pack for a top 4 place - it’s possible they could be relying on the Chelsea win but that’s a risky strategy. If they fail to make top 4 it would be a disaster for the Rags both financially and otherwise.

I never try and guess what team Pep will put out, but there are actually people who think we should drop Sergio?
Mental, the fucking season is nearly over and this our hardest game left.
Play our strongest side which has to include Sergio, Sterling, Bernardo,Walker, Ederson and Laporte.
Pep can pick the other 5... ;-)

Because their players have pretty much downed tools and really don't give a toss
It may be a disaster for united as a business, but the players will still collect their hundreds of thousands a week

You’re thinking like a football fan. The players won’t care if it’s us or the Dippers winning the league. They might decide to target the Chelsea game if they think that’s the only way they’ll win it but that decision won’t be based on who they want to win the Premiership. I completely agree with your last sentence though.

I’ll bet you’ll see a different United on Wednesday. I think your confusing a team that’s downed tools with one that is playing shit - we all know form goes out of the window for derbies. Having said that dickie - on this occasion I hope you’re right and I’m wrong :-)

I’d like to think you’re right dickie, but have you not read that their top boys will have a 25% pay cut if they miss out on top 4?
