The odds on Mourinho were actually falling fast yesterday, as I posted on here last night. These are very thin markets but it's interesting that money has been going on Mourinho over the past 48 hours, even when the popular story was that Pellegrini was nailed on. Obviously some people think otherwise, and probably not your casual punters given the media deluge on Pellegrini.
I think Mourinho is a decent bet actually at about 6-1 for various reasons - all speculative, but here goes:
1) Mourinho was in London on the Tuesday after the Chelsea semi final, our top brass could have easily have stayed on in London for another day or so to talk to him
2) Mourinho's own behaviour has been strange - why would he come out with all that 'I want to go where I'm loved' stuff if he was already certain to join Chelsea?
3) We could still have been in for Pellegrini when we spoke to his agent - all of that could have been true. His agent may simply have said no. Pellegrini talked about some imminent news on the ownership of Malaga last night which could see him stay.
4) The talk last night about Mancini being dumped by the Sheikh and not Soriano/Txiki - the Sheikh has long been thought to be keen on Mourinho. Perhaps Soriano/Txiki feel marginalised as well if Mourinho actually is the choice.
5) Finally, I'm still surprised by the timing of Baconface's announcement. He said himself that the news came out earlier than he had wanted, and the support he's shown for Moyes all seems a little contrived to me. That lot are so shallow that they'd definitely want their couple of days of media coverage before the really big story breaks. This is the bit that intrigues me most.
Anyway, can't see this dragging on for too much longer, even if that utter sh*t show on Saturday suggested that some of our old personality traits are re-emerging.

Before I left we'd sacked Mancini. Hired and then fired Pellegrini. Flirted briefly with De Boer, before finally settling on Mourinho.
