Mancini critism of Hughes

Midfield was our deepest squad section under Hughes; it hasn't suddenly become a weak area. There is a lack of creativity in CM but whilst Mancini set us up 10 men behind the keeper, i'm not really sure what he's moaning about... Its never been an area mentioned on here by many for strengthening.

a) Have a look on the midfield roster of the CL last 16;
b) Watch them play;
c) Compare to how our midfield is able to play.

Then.... await until MH will have reach a CL last 16.... by then.... I will probably been dated by Angiolina Jolie!

All dominant squads play 10 men behind the ball when out of possess. The matter is that, when they turnover, they circulate the ball, they pass the ball, they stretch the field and makes the opponents run in anxiety, they dictate the pass, they open up spaces. We aren't able to do that. That is why defence appears leaking in spite of being fitted with top players and why we take a masterpiece from strikers/winger to score a goal.

Football has been updated since 1966, even if You and Hughes seems not to understand.

No they don't,the rest is as bad as the"Just because no one has mentioned it on here or Hughes didn't see it as a problem doesn't mean it isn't"post above or as bigger WU,take your pick.

Exactly, Barry, De Jong are no match compared to the likes of Xavi, Ineista, Alonso, Pirlo, Ambrosini, Fabregas.

Clubs won't sell those players anyway, so Mancini has to looking deep into Serie A and La Liga to find and up and coming star. I don't think he has bought these types of midfielders before for Inter so I'm worried he won't get one.

But then no one on here has played at the top level for 20 years and won 3 italian leagues and all the cups have they?

Just because no one has mentioned it on here or Hughes didn't see it as a problem doesn't mean it isn't.

Probably because it wasn't a problem. The Italian league is nothing compared to this one, i'd wager Mancini would admit that, so its hardly a decent comparison.

There was no issue there before Mancini came in hence the reason it was never brought up. Now were palying formations with no width, no creativity, no flair, no attacking prowess... sure its a problem now, we'll need half a dozen CM to get through a season. Either that or just put a few more defenders in midfield, the way De Jong et al are bypassed when we attack they're basically doing the same job as Kompany/Toure, just slightly further forward.

Similarly, just because one person has mentioned it, doesnt mean its suddenly bcome an issue.

TBF, out of the "last 16" CL teams, you've named players from 4. I'm sure if we went through the midfield of all 16 we'd not be too out of place.

Barry was wanted by Liverpool, De Jong i think is one of the best around at his role, Vieria's record speaks for itself, Ireland is apparently wanted by both Utd and Chelsea.

We're hardly scrapping the bottom of the barrell.

Whilst we're having pops, i don't think you've watched enything but Italian football... ever.

Do Ibrahimovic/Henry/Messi get behind the ball when Barca aren't in possesion?
How about Arshavin/Bentdner/Nasri and recently Fabregas?
Do Ronaldo/Kaka/Bezema/Raul/Higuan often track back for Madrid?
Do Drogba and Anelka rush back behind the ball when out of possesion?

Do any opposition teams run due to "anxiety"?

We don't open up spaces because we're being told, for whatever reason, to slow the tempo down... we have no width to create spaces, we have no midfielders with the duty of making forward runs. We don't opn up spaces because our attacking three are currently seen as an almost seperate entitiy for the rest of the team, they are iscolated, the gap between defence and attack is too big, theres no unity, no flow.

Perhaps you should take your advice on A. B. & C.

Yes. Mancini certainly ripped into Hughes over that one. Rarely have I heard such a devestating critique of an ex-manager - 'We are a bit short on central midfielders'. Ooh thats a real body blow.

Still look on the bright side we got 10 pages out of it.

to be fair he had pretty much a full january to sort our shit out. when hughes got a january, he tried to address our biggest problems by buying a solid keeper, a goalscoring striker and a terrier midfielder. mancini only has himself to blame when his only move is for a 33 year old has-been. in my opinion we need to have a turnover in squad, and actually find a decent fucking captain! heres the players in our squad id keep :

keepers: Given, and Hart on loan again

Right backs: Nedum, Zabaleta (i still stand by my words when i say Richards has fucked over his own career by building his body to pornstar stature)

Centre Halves: Lescott,Boyata,kompany

Left Backs: Bridge, Sylvinho (as player-coach), garrido (useful squad player)

Central midfielders: de jong, johnon (micheal) and ireland and barry if they can get their shit together. vieira isnt going to be a long term solution

wingers/attacking midfielders: tevez, bellamy, johnson (adam), weiss and sweep if he can improve

strikers: adebayor, santa cruz IF he can stay fit.

Mancini states in the Guardian

Which just goes to show he doesn't even understand his own squad, what is Kompany, he is a fucking midfielder covering at centre half until his injury. Excuse's excuse's.
I hope the original poster is suitably embarrassed?

The other midfielder is Michael Johnson, but he's a long term injury. Hughes could not have predcited the injury in the Summer, but at the same time he could not rely on Johnson's return either as he has been a long term injury

The lack of midfielders was less of an issue for Hughes as he wanted to play with wingers, but Mancini wants City to be difficult to beat away from home - and for that you need to control the game in the middle of the park. Our midfielder's natural game is to sit deep.

We need a fit Vieira and one who is 5 years younger.
100% agree with this!

Well Nedum is terrible at Right back and has said he hates playing there, everyone knows he a center back, Zab is a fucking liability at right back and i dont think Mancini wants him there

While Mancini has said that richards has the ability to become a great of the game, while he has been muscley since he was 17! Plus no matter what he better than the other 2 at RB, except last season when everyone was shit there!!
