Mancini critism of Hughes

Mancini states in the Guardian

Which just goes to show he doesn't even understand his own squad, what is Kompany, he is a fucking midfielder covering at centre half until his injury. Excuse's excuse's.

vrey worrying isnt it,.......especially as he keeps playing one fo those central midfielders on the right hand side when he has a right winger sat on the bench and has loaned the other one out.

do you know something about football ?

do you know what is a diamond midfield ?

can really are you so idiot to believe to play diamond midfield with real wings on the side ?

From what I have heard the only thing Hughes got right was that the squad were fit.

As for any negatives about Mancini they are false, I have read his coaching licence thesis which was a very good read, his speciality is attacking midfield players and the use/ coaching of them. So I do have confidence that he knows his players in midfield whether they are in or out of position.

I think Mancini is spot on.

Hughes had 18 months and pretty much unlimited funds to assemble a quality 'team,' and I am afraid it looks far to disjointed. Our defence was an absolute shambles under Hughes which is why Mancini has had to overcompensate with defensive midfield players. Unfortunately the ones we have cannot pass-it is ridiculous. De jong is a great tackler nothing more, he can pass the ball back to given but against Hull on several occassions he tried to make simple 5-10 yard passes and they ALL got intercepted! Barry was a good player at Villa but for us he never seems to do anything with the ball. Yes, he wins lots of tackles but he never comes out with the ball, which defeats the whole point of tackling, and I do not know whether there is anything wrong with his ears but he can never stay on his feat, at times he seem utterly hopeless! If he is carrying an injury as many on here have speculated than fair enough but most of his performances thus far have been very very poor. Ireland and SWP are good players but out of form. the whole point of the midfield is to help out the defence, breaking up opposition play and then releasing the forward players. We cannot pass the ball from midfield to attack let alone rely on our midfielders to create stuff or score goals (that is where we miss elano, yes he was moody but that does not mean he is a bad player, he just needs good management and like all Brazilians he needs to feel wanted (look at Ronaldinho's renaissance under Leonardo after being shunned by Ancelotti).

If we can get 2 quality central midfield players in the summer I think we will be a very strong team. The top central midfield players are the likes of diego, de rossi, xavi, iniesta, fabregas, kaka, alonso, essien. Unfortunately we do not have the slightest hope of signing any of those but Mascherano, yaya toure, and javi martinez are also good options (at least they know how to pass the ball forward)! One thing Mancini has shown in his time in Italy is that he is able to spot talent and if he is here in the summer I would back him to buy some excellent players.

Despite all my criticism I still think that this squad is good enough for the top 4 (especially since the usual suspects have been far from there best) and would be really disappointed if we did not get that this season.

That's all well and good in an essay. I'll tell him the best way to use an attacking midfielder; on the pitch. Not sat in a tracksuit on the bench.

Its an essay based on stats, observation of games, time spent learning from other managers, his playing days,coaching sessions et. So I would say the essay is valid material in gaining a perspective of his methods.

To state that "I prefer being a midfielder than a defender" doesn't mean that he should be a midfielder.

Do you think Dirk Kuyt prefers a defensive winger position more than a striker? The manager has to make a big decision sometime.

And i would also suggest that Mancini is being very polite as he must have been amazed at the total imbalance of the squad that the previous management put together, hence the continual changing and trying of different players to find out who can play where.

This is unfortunately true. I believe the imbalance was the result of competing transfer policies. I think at some point the dual transfer policy brought itself to a head when Hughes policy of bringing in proven premier league performers (Bellamy, RSC, Barry, SWP, Given) clashed with the world class internationals (Robinho, Tevez, Adebayor, Toure) that Marwood and Cook were interested in for generating marketing value.

Despite most people's perception, very few if any managers have free reign to bring in whoever they want. This is a multi-billion dollar business and they aren't going to leave multi-million dollar decisions to a guy whose expertise is soccer. The manager simply identifies players he would like and it is up to the business side of the house to sort the rest. Manager's are likely to get the odd must have player or 2, ie: the reason Hughes was allowed to get RSC but for the most part the team will be decided by money men based on cost structure. This is how things are done in all 3 major sports leagues in NA. There is a general manager who deals with the business side and a coach who coaches the players provided to him. In a few clubs this position is sometimes held by one person but they are generally someone who has had tremendous experience in the game. I don't think the situation will be much different for Mancini or any other manager who is brought in.

It is a very poorly held secret that Brian Marwood is intimately involved in the transfer dealings of the club. Popular opinion is that AJ was a Marwood choice but sanctioned by Mancini. I've been saying this for a while that Marwood has been heavily involved in transfer dealings. In fact I think it's Marwood & Cook who are primarily responsible for the signings of Robinho, Ade, Tevez and Toure. I even think they were the ones who drove the Lescott deal through as a statement of intent to other teams out there. Basically, that we can get any player we want.

Complaining about the previous position is not the way to go about anything. He shouldnt be looking to make excuses and get on with it and as many have said on here it would help him to play players in their best positions.

There is only one thing that I will never understand: why the Good Sheik, once assessed that 200+ millions of His pounds were resulted in an unbalanced team that has very hard to fight for getting a CL spot in a season where all the bigs are dropping points, did appoint an italian idiot with no record of success in his carreer, instead of picking amongst the plenty of top managers available hereon???.....

Indeed I am a dunce but, at the very end, I succeded in comparison between the midfielders' roster of top Clubs he aims to equalize (Barca, RM, Chelsea, F****g Utd, Inter, etc.), with a Club which has to run a season of top ambitions in PL, FA and Curling Cups with:
a) Nigel deJong: a great defensive CM which is deemed, by role and technical features to break the opponents plays:
b) Garreth Barry, a solid english CM, which use to shine at England's international when surrounded by big personalities more than at Club;
c) Stevie Ireland, a so called playmaker, who consider his ego more important than the honour of reppresenting his Country and seldom use to disappear from big games like at OT 2° leg, when he was entered to secure the pace of the squad just for 20 minutes and an hopefull overtime.
Indeed, like Robinho he is a world class, but all this stupid managers does not want to them play in their natural role.

Additionally, as utility, there are also available:
Vince Kompany: a natural born CB, whose ability at playing the ball irrespectively by head or feet just render him as good as the former top european CB of the recent past;
Pablo Zabaleta: an average skilled FB, whose versatility and superb ethic render him eligible for special midfield defensive tasks, when needed.

No way........... :-)
