Hi everyone,
This is my first post ever at Blue Moon. I visit the website quite often; thanks to Ric and the crew for what you do. Extra thanks to the podcast guys!
I confess I've only been a City supporter since July/August. A few friends and I here in California were feeling World Cup withdrawal, and I proposed the idea of a very simple fantasy football league - each of us just picks one Premiership club and follows it throughout the season. We have a point system which more or less mirrors how each club performs in EPL, FA Cup, and Champs/Europa League games. I picked City, and following the team has become a surprisingly significant part of my life. Not a day seems to go by when I'm not either at this website, or at City's official one, or at The Guardian reading up on City news. When City is playing, I'm anxiously and repeatedly checking the score at ESPN.com. When City wins, my next couple of days seem brighter; when City loses, my next couple of days seem heavier. Ha, and I just remembered that I'm wearing a City t-shirt which I bought at the City Online store. This City thing is quite addictive, isn't it?
As far as the question goes, I'd give Bobby Manc a 7.5 out of 10. I don't know the history of the club like most of you do, but it seems like things are generally going well. I think one of his strengths is his eye for talent and ability. While Mark Hughes's signings seem more hit (Tevez and Nigel) or miss (Robinho and Santa Cruz), Mancini's all clearly seem to have talent, in my opinion.
One of his weaknesses that is actually quite trifling, but which regularly strikes me as funny, is that his favorite adjective appears to be "difficult." Every game seems to qualify as "difficult." Almost every away game takes place at a "difficult" sporting arena to play in. Many weeks feature "difficult" playing conditions. I know he's still learning English, but someone should get him a Thesaurus for Christmas!
But overall, he seems to have done well. I don't mind the more defensive-minded tactics. Here in the U.S., people often say, "A win is a win" - meaning that it doesn't matter if a win wasn't pretty - it's still 3 points, and we'll take it. As long as the club finishes in the top 3 and makes respectable FA Cup and Europa showings, I think I'll be satisfied.
Cheers, and all you folks in Manchester stay warm.
