Mancini Press Conference

I love Mancini but get the feeling when he gets the 2-3 players in this window, in January he'll say something like "I need more players, I don't have enough. [...] Iniesta, he is the difference between 2nd and 1st." He never seems satisfied. Its abundantly clear that we need an attacking midfielder (why didn't he buy one instead of Milner though?) but I really don't see what else we need. We have three strikers with the potential to bag 20+ goals a season, we have plenty of water carriers, plenty of defenders, two established full-backs on each side, and two international goalkeepers. We don't use wingers much yet he wants Cerci it seems, when he could keep SWP and/or Weiss for the occasions we need an alternative to Johnson.

<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satisfaction_Is_the_Death_of_Desire" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satisfacti ... _of_Desire</a>

Bob's been listening to too much Hatebreed.

If and I stress IF Mancini has agreed certain targets with the 'buying' team he has every right to feel pised off if they have not been brought in...Utd, Liverpool have managed to get their players in no problem...so why do we struggle?...because we're Man City or because our 'team' isn't on it?? Don't know the answer to that.......9 points is a lot to make up on Utd over a season and the period we lost the league last year was post christmas to March...a stronger squad would have helped. If he, as the boss has decided that Roque,Bellamy,Ade and Bridge are not up to it then that's good enough for me...let's get the team in that he wants....still time.

i cant say nothing of Khaldoun and the Owner. i just can say this marriage cant go on and they will have to do a choice sooner better than later.

Like I said, they already have. Mancini doesn't have 100% control yet. He hasn't earned it in the eyes of the owners clearly. Maybe if he wins the title, as he said the other week, they'll change their mind next summer...

I think it would be crazy these days to give any manager 100% control. Do we really want Bob to spend hours a week with his abacus working out how to balance the books to meet FPR? Working out how much he needs to sell Adebayor for and whether to subsidise his wages in order to buy Cerci?

Its too big a job. It reminds me of when Liverpool gave Benitez "control" over their transfer budget. The trouble was he didnt realise until he'd spent it that he also had to pay for any contract upgrades from the same budget.

If Bob had been given 100% control he'd probably have bought Kun for £50m in the first week of the window, completed a straight exchange of Tevez for Eto'o and now be wondering why Hart has requested a transfer and he's no money to pay for Nasri.

i and you would have been good enough to pay out kun release clause

The most successful managers never are, look at the tosser over the road, he's always looking to improve his squad even after they win titles or the CL.
Well said.

why is that? boateng and Veiria has gone. and he wants two good players on each posstion.

you to the math.

GK - Hart & Pantilimon
LB - Kolarov & Clichy
RB - Richards & Zaba
CB - Kompany & Lescott & Savic & Kolo & Boyata

DM: De Jong & Barry (& Yaya)
MF: Yaya & Milner

AM: Silva (& Nasri imminent)

W: Johnson & SWP & Weiss

FW: Aguero & Tevez & Dzeko & Balotelli

Then he has willing players he could call on but refuses to like Bellamy and Onuoha who have shown they are at least good enough to be fringe players.

Assuming Mancini played a 4-2-3-1:

TWO Goal-keepers
TWO right-backs
TWO left-backs
FOUR center-backs
FOUR central midfielders
TWO attacking midfielders
FOUR wingers
TWO strikers

Your math is a bit off...

And even if someone like Bellamy is good enough to be a fringe player, he is not happy being a fringe player and it would not help the team at all. And you can't be serious about calling upon the likes of Denis Suarez or JA Roman for a champions league fixture...

Not a happy man imo.

Constantly repeating the message that the season is about to start and the club haven't signed their targets.

When Supporters can't receive their Seasoncards in good time then I shudder to think how the Club organises the pursuit of Lionel Messi. Can Mancini only bring success with money?

his magic wand was mislaid in the post

Yes, its obvious there is some frustration on Mancini's part at the slow progress with our transfer target's, but it's as much to do with being in a tedious press conference where 20 journos sit and wait all to ask him the same Q's OVER and OVER again. It must feel like groundhog day sometimes. The journo who opens with 'you're the richest club in the world but you can't get your targets before the being of the season' or along those lines is a perfect example, right after bobby has just spent 5 mins talking about that very issue. They're all looking for their petit sound bites they can inflate and stretch into 'news'. It's no coincidence that Bobby's english hasn't improved beyond a certain point, these now comical phrases 'iz important, only thiz, theese iz football' etc etc allow him to limit the information he provides to the press.

While it erks me a little for Mancini to imply that the pool of talent at his disposal isnt good enough or is in incomplete, I also realise that this relentless pursuit of success is what distinguishes top managers from the rest. I think many people are distracted by the floppy hair, the stupid accent and the twinkle in his eye- this guy is f'ing ruthless and is so incredibly driven.

Amazing that when threads like this start the usual suspects all come out with their usual bullshit.
Only had to read page 1 and knew Billy Shears would join in (Are you telpathic?)

Enlighten me as to what I've posted which you consider to be bullshit?

Tbh honest Billy i was talking more about DD and Soulboy and their anti Mancini stance , but was implying that you always seem to post on any topic they do. Do you all work in the same office? :0)

You can tell the seasons started again.

True

Thread kicks off with an observation that Mancini doesn't look happy

We speculate why he doesn't look happy

Thread descends into yet another lengthy debate on the manager and why he is good/bad/average/Italian/whatever based on our own speculation as to why he is not looking happy...

...and we are still 3 days away from our first competitive game

Mind you if Mancini was all happy and bouncy he would be accused of not giving a fuck, burying his head in the sand and "by Christ you never see Taggart that happy do you by God lets get a manager who cares..." etc etc
