If and I stress IF Mancini has agreed certain targets with the 'buying' team he has every right to feel pised off if they have not been brought in...Utd, Liverpool have managed to get their players in no problem...so why do we struggle?...because we're Man City or because our 'team' isn't on it?? Don't know the answer to that.......9 points is a lot to make up on Utd over a season and the period we lost the league last year was post christmas to March...a stronger squad would have helped. If he, as the boss has decided that Roque,Bellamy,Ade and Bridge are not up to it then that's good enough for me...let's get the team in that he wants....still time.
spot on that blue tooth, but seeing as united were gifted about 12 points last season we have to get around the referees alliances? dowd will be the main antagonist this coming season, he booked our whole back four on sunday yes richards should have walked but so should evra?

Couldn't agree more with that comment.

So why is the manager mentioning today that in his view we haven't got the players in quick enough when, as you so correctly observed, we still have 20 days left of the transfer window?

Why the concerns by the manager? A bit of patience would do him and a lot on here a world of good... ;-))

Too many still have the kid in the sweet shop mentality of wanting it all now.

we`ve got aguero and it looks like we`re going for nasri who arsenal dont want to sell. maybe even sneijder. we`re going for top players. we`re not buying ashley fucking young or over the top for phil jones. our signings are bound to be more complex

Yes, its obvious there is some frustration on Mancini's part at the slow progress with our transfer target's, but it's as much to do with being in a tedious press conference where 20 journos sit and wait all to ask him the same Q's OVER and OVER again. It must feel like groundhog day sometimes. The journo who opens with 'you're the richest club in the world but you can't get your targets before the being of the season' or along those lines is a perfect example, right after bobby has just spent 5 mins talking about that very issue. They're all looking for their petit sound bites they can inflate and stretch into 'news'. It's no coincidence that Bobby's english hasn't improved beyond a certain point, these now comical phrases 'iz important, only thiz, theese iz football' etc etc allow him to limit the information he provides to the press.

While it erks me a little for Mancini to imply that the pool of talent at his disposal isnt good enough or is in incomplete, I also realise that this relentless pursuit of success is what distinguishes top managers from the rest. I think many people are distracted by the floppy hair, the stupid accent and the twinkle in his eye- this guy is f'ing ruthless and is so incredibly driven.

By far the most sensible post on this thread.

Who here can honestly say we're doing a particularly good job in negotiations?

While not the biggest fan of Cook and Marwood (I have constantly stated thgat Cook is not the right man for the job he is in and then had to suffer the barrage of "get behind the club" calls!), I'm not sure what else they could have done.

Suarez was always destined for Barca.

Nasri will only arrive once Wenger has stopped sulking... and that takes time!

Sneijder... has Mancini ever seriously claimed we want him?

Who else have we missed out on so far then?

Do we abandon the Nasri deal and go for a second choice? Surely it's better to be patient and get what you want?

Hasn't our transfer dealings over the past three years not been sufficient evidence of a flawed transfer policy? Maybe now the club have realised that there's no point anymore in getting in mercenaries or nearly-men.

And I would agree with that. I would be amazed if anyone thought differently, to be honest!

I'm not sure what else they could have done either but I'm not a megabucks executive at the self-proclaimed richest club in the world.

I just don't think the club under Marwood and Cook has a good record at making deals quickly or cheaply enough. We pay too much, and whilst waiting is part of the game we do it too often, too long (Half a season for Dzeko?). Managers hate this. Consider the situation at Tottenham over Berbatov. They waited until the last day, and had no opportunity to reshape the squad. The manager effectively went on strike and lost 14 games, got sacked. The next guy comes in and his first demand is that the Director of Football is sacked, that he is allowed to bring in his own players.

Despite the waiting, we're still paying megabucks. The Nasri deal is too much for a player in the last year of his contract. A deal for 24m would place his real value at 40-60m. I think what Mancini is saying is that there will have been opportunities to make the deals for less, and quicker... deal makers really ought to be the type of people who see the opportunity and can close quickly, but we seem to take a very stately approach to it all, giving people time to think things through and strengthen their position.

And we've still got countless unwanted players on the books. Better deals for them and us have come and gone. It's all very well playing a bit of hard-ball but we are being inflexible and dogmatic. Self-congratulatory over the amount we're (not) paying to agents, but we could have doubled that figure, and it would have easily paid off if we had got rid of one Bellamy, Bridge or Adebayor.

Mancini did say in may that he wanted all his players signed before our first pre season game !!
that was never gonna happen, not with calibre of players were in for.
i think his concern about wanting them earlier was so that they all do a full pre season with us, unlike last year, post world cup when most of the squad came back in dribs and drabs.

I presume he is pissed off - if indeed he is actually pissed off - because he wants everyone in before the first game of the season. I expect every manager would ideally want that and 99% of then are going to be disappointed.

The thing about Mancini is that he just isn't the type to sit back, shrug and say 'well can't be helped I suppose'. He wants everything and he wants it yesterday. Whereas previously he will have hidden this with a twinkle and a ready smile one full season in with CL qualification and an FA Cup win under his belt he no longer feels the need and he has reverted to type.

You may counsel patience. We both would probably argue that City have been more than generous with support and funds but the more you give Mancini the more he wants and the quicker he wants it. You can't satisfy someone like Mancini because they are never satisfied. Its relentless. It ain't pretty. But it does bring success in its wake.
