Mancini..the man, the politician?

I'll only be happy with Mancini when he achieves something. Last year was a failure for both Hughes and Mancini. Hughes had 2 failed seasons and deserved the boot (as did SGE before him), Mancini I hope will not fail a 2nd time but if he does then ... out on his ear imo.

At the moment I rate Pearce, Keegan, Royle, Horton and even Reid above him. All achieved what they could with what they had. Keegan and Royle giving us the most joy I think. Horton and Keegan giving us the best football.

People call for stability but IMO that must be earned. It starts with the owner sticking around and gaining enough experience to not be dooped by trickster managers (like Capello has dooped the FA). Sure out there is a man who can do a good and honest job. I hope it's our current manager but as of yet I see no evidence.

Please earn my respect Mr Mancini. :-)

this is why we are starved of success - 1 1/2 seasons and you're out!!!! unbelievable!!

I'd have kept all the the managers I mentioned earlier... Horton, Pearce, Keegam and Royle all did the best they could with what they had and didn't deserve to go. But saying that we gave them more than we could afford. We gave them the best chance we could to succeed (to the level of expectation we had at the time).

IMO too many people blame the chairman or the owner for not making it easier for a manager. Many people claim we should give managers time but IMO that's too simplistic... and too forgiving of the manager and the players.

Our failure to succeed hasn't been the consequence of how quickly we fired managers. IMO it's been a lack of money and luck.

Now that we have the money it's time to make the most of it. If the owner doesn't get signs of improvement (if not the results at least an attractive and intelligent style of football) then he should be ruthless. Hughes and Mancini to date played shite one dimensional football. That's ok if the results were such that we made our targets. I'd forgive not making 4th or a final if we showed signs of improvement on the pitch. This is what I'm looking forward to in the coming season. One or the other. results or intelligent/attractive play. If I see neither then I'll be all for Mancini to go. I hope he is good enough though :-)

i gotta admit, when Mancini first took over, i didnt like it at all, im very anti-italian football, but he proved me wrong. he is a very nice guy, a professional, and he knows what he is doing.

he's one of the good guys, a class act and very clever, you can't help but like him. he said last year that this season would be different on the pitch as he will have his own players in place to play the way he wants to play and i believe him.

i must say this though, unless we are a total disaster we must keep him, 4th, or a cup is yet again progress, that progress will be undone if we yet again sack a manger willy nilly. all this talk of him being favourite for the chop riles me, we need to close ranks, bond the players, bond the club and stand toe to toe against the tossers that want us to fail, all down to insane jealousy.

as someone said a few posts ago, to get anywhere we need to play proper attacking football, that or win every game in a dull 1-0, which ever it is i'll be happy and it will shut the snipers up once and for all.

I dont worry too much about having an owner who demands success as I think its off the mark.

Mancini will be given time unless he has a complete disaster. The patience the board showed Hughes was generous enough, they were expected to fire him day one and didnt.

The press and bookies wont impact what City do.

All of that said we are where we want to be at the start of the real season one under the best owners in world football.

Can only agree with both of you.

imo Mancini is THE manager we should be building our dynasty around. He is an ex player (decednt one at that) which will help him with players, he has won things in Italy and I thought he did more than ok for his first 6 months with a squad that wasnt his.

the pressure will be on him this season, moreso from the outside world so as De Niro said we ALL need to stand toe to toe, siege mentality and sod the rest. We are City, this IS our City and its OUR TIME.

I thank you ! :-)

Yeah, very good post.

To be fair to Mark Hughes though, I felt he conducted himself really well but maybe didn't have the international profile needed.

And to be fair to those who sacked him, he didn't have a clue at how to organise a skillful football team either.

Mancini, imho, is the man to take us forward. He still has some adjustment to PL football required, like knowing those odd occassions when attack can be the best form of defence. He exudes class, authority and assurance.

MH despite the Sky Media and Red Top media outrage at his sacking; the most promising/accomplished young British Manager since Baconface has not been innudated with PL Manager offers. I must have missed the media furore over him being overlooked for the Liverpool and Fulham jobs.
