you'll need to greplace (or atleast if they can improve)
Boateng, kolarov, dzeko, milner, barry

No cannot agree with this Barry is good enough and the others were in their first year/half year of a new club and will be better next year.

I know you said "if they improve" but replacing them should not be in the plans at all for this window unless they want to leave.

Its not surprising that RM is using his current position of strength to lobby for more players. What manager wouldnt?

But he has to accept that in an era of FFPR and squad restrictions there is an inevitable trade off between size of squad and quality of squad. Its simply no longer possible to have 24 players earning £80k+ pw. I'm not sure how desireable that is given the problems of having players with big egos not getting regular first team football.

I think City's transfer strategy for the summer is fairly clear. We'll bring in 2 quality players that will be expected to be first team regulars. A 3rd top signing will be made if Tevez leaves.

We'll also look to offload Adebayor, Bridge, Bellamy, SWP, Jo, Given, RSC, Caicedo, one of Vieira and M Johnson, and a few fringe reserves. We'll replace most of those with young-ish players on lower average wages.

I think Barry has to go if you want anything from the Champions League.

it's a bit discomforting on how Mancini's and the upper management interviews and quotes are so out of sync.
How are they out of synch?

It's Khaldoon's job to be reasonable and measured and to downplay the monies City's budget?

And Mancini barely said anything beyond we need to strengthen.

This season we lost games when we played fringe players, and if we are to get anywhere in Europe and the Premier League then we need to use all the squad.

Maybe now the manager has more authority he will feel more confident in doing so.

We don't need quantity. We need quality. Maybe just 2-3 additions who are better than what we have. Add a Sanchez, a Baines to what we have and that might be enough.

The existing players will improve too

we need both quality and quantity

you cant really believe to get results in the CL with the existing squad + sanchez and baines

We don't actually need a new truck load of players.

The fact that they have all played together for a year, under the manager that will be here next season, is a boost enough. They all have another year of experience, which is a good thing.

Compare that with Chelsea (and to a lesser extend, United), who have an aging squad with a few sparks. Chelsea had an agiong squad at the start of the year, more-so now. Lampard and Terry into their thirties, Anelka and Drogba, getting on, £50M on a striker on the decline. They are going backwards.

Then look and the rags, the likes of Giggs and Scholes are on their way out, VDS is gonna be gone. They have to replace players, big players, and it will take them time to settle into the system, and the league.

Then lets look at Arsenal. A young team (still), with no direction on the pitch. No powerhouse to lead through the rough. They will wither once again. They will be potless once again.

Spurs fans believe they only need a striker, and a defender, and another defender, and a midfielder, and another midfielder, and another midfielder, and a goalkeeper, and another defender, to win the league.

The fact is, we have winners in our squad, that have now won something here. Confidence should be booming going into next season. One or two top additions, with a few younger player to blood in over a few years, and we will have the tools to go for the title next year.

I agree. I think United's success this season was based on two factors. Hernandes was an excellent bargain buy and Giggs enjoyed an indian summer. Hernandes will be more of a known quantity next season. And age must eventually catch up on Giggs.

RIght, I obviously didnt say or imply being practical' or realistic lol
If we were to do so, we would only buy 1 , 2 players, and train our young guys like milner and boateng who are both real young.
