I feel like Fernando and Mangala were two players whose City careers seemed to switch on a knife-edge.
Fernando was absolutely excellent in his first couple of games games and looked like the kind of player we'd needed to support Fernandinho for a while, but I seem to recall him picking up a niggling groin injury in a home game (against Stoke?), after which he was never the same again. I never thought he was as bad as people made out, I think we were just blessed with Yaya and Fernandinho and got used to watching world class central midfielders, but he never delivered on the potential it looked like he had in his first couple of matches. A shame, really, but I see he's signed for Sevilla a few weeks ago, so maybe things aren't all bad for him.
Mangala was also excellent at the start of that season. His debut against Chelsea was remarkable and I remember leaving that game convinced we'd finally signed a ball-playing centre-back who was somehow fast and physical. But then he scored an own goal and gave away a penalty against Hull and he looked completely shell-shocked after that. He had a nice partnership with Demichelis - I seem to remember them having an impressive run of clean sheets - but he was always inches from a mistake and he was part of the reason why the 15-16 league campaign was so bad.
