Manu Garcia

The thing about Manu Garcia imo, is that he probably has to start creating/scoring goals regularly at some point in order to merit a job at a club like City. We have arguments about whether players such as Nasri merit their place. Nasri was a real top talent as a kid & still is now. The question is always about his role in the team & whether he does enough to merit it, rather than his ability. It's unlikely Manu will become a ballwinner & he's small in stature so he has to become a creative mastermind or be a squad player to fill in.

That is the challenge for M Garcia imo. We can already see Diaz for instance, threatening to do all that kind of stuff. Garcia when he first arrived, showed a lot of tricky stuff around the penalty area, so it's in there.

I get what you're saying but goals and assist stats aren't all that important, It's how the team does with him in it that counts more.

Iniesta, one of the greatest of his generation, if not ever, is the prime example in my mind when people (esp. on twitter) obsess about stats.

Manu didn't get any stat from our goal vs Chelsea, but he was the key architect.

Obviously he has a long way to go and a lot of hard work to put in but if he can become half the player Iniesta has been he'll be an important part of the squad for many years. And he'll save us a ton of money in the process and, as a bonus, feel connected to the club in a way most big money signing are unlikely to

Hopefully so.

But the difference between him starting games as a first choice, or being a squad player or moved on, will imo be down to how much he creates.

Silva for instance, in the form he is in right now, would not be kept on by City as a starter, if that was as far as his capabilities went. Knocking the ball around nicely is not enough, it would have to be special stuff, which is what he does when fit.

We will have access to plenty of skilled clever players, even from our own academy. Some may be 6ft tall, fast, strong & clever at passing. The ones who end up in the first team as starters, will be the ones that have something extra on top of that. I think Manu probably does but what he's doing right now, is not ahead of what others can do.

But any of these kids that make 2nd or 3rd choice for the first team, is success for the academy & Manu certainly looks like he can at least reach that level, as do several more.

sporting gijon wants him but he's been told that he won't be loaned out and that he'll spend the preseason with the first team, then a decision about his future will be made

Manu, Jack Byrne, seko & aleix should all stay till Jan then go on loan if not required. They all have good to great potential and 6 months being coached by pep and being in and around the 1st team training and minutes here and there would improve them all and then go show their talents in the 2nd half of the season.

I'm not convinced from what I've seen (not a great deal admittedly) by Fofana, just can't see him making it here.

Byrne is the interesting one, a little under the radar prior to last season, but he took the Eredivisie by storm in a really poor Cambuur side and is certainly worth Pep running the rule over before deciding if he needs more seasoning out on loan or is ready to be introduced to the first team.

Yeah i think Byrne is best out on loan for another season myself. If they can find another Dutch club to take him on loan for the season then it will be of benefit to the club and Byrne who by another season on loan should be playing international football by the time he gets back to City. Think the technical leagues are best for Jack at the moment. But I can also see Byrne showing enough to Pep in pre-season for him to maybe break into the main squad if he stays injury free. But just wondering how many midfielders we will sign. Think the likes of Manu Gatcia need to go out on a loan spell for a bit to see how he takes to regular man football.

Definitely a loan for this kid,he's shown glimpses of having what it takes but he needs consistency in his game, and he's only going to get that playing regularly, hopefully using our Spanish links.

Be best off at City with first team appearances here and there IMO, but let's see what Pep thinks

If he looks as good on the ball at City as he has in Holland, it would be more Nasri & Silva who played 'here & there' on merit imo.

Let's see what he does & take it from there. And I'd like to see them try him next to DeBruyne, Fernandinho etc before they decide.

According to @Bluwhit,he's going on loan to a Spanish first division club.

Probably exactly what he needs to re-ignite him.

Yeah seems more like pellegrini's ideal youth product than pep's perhaps. I think he's dropped down the pecking order so a loan to reinvigorate him would be ideal.

He's got to be careful that those below him don't surpass him. He seems to have stalled and didn't stand out whenever he played for the U18s last year.
