Why don't we turn this around Chris. You tell me whether you think Pellegrini is a flat track bully or tactically inept against better managers (like Brenda and Wenger) ? Or maybe he's both in your eyes.

I don't think he is a flat track bully, but id suggest his record against Mourinho and Wenger would suggest he is getting out thought, despite having a better team and squad than both

Lets turn this around on you, IF Ancelotti became available this summer, due to Real Madrid not winning anything, would you like to see us make an effort to bring him in? Or are you adamant he couldn't do a better job than Pellegrini?

I think the pool of matches you've chosen is too small. Notwithstanding that we have beaten both Arsenal and Chelsea during this pretty small pool of fixtures. Do I think Wenger and Mourinho have out thought Pellegrini? Well, no. I don't think Chelsea were tactically better than us in any of the fixtures last season, nor do I think Arsenal were tactically better than us yesterday nor in the previous 3 fixtures. So you're argument falls over there.

In terms of Ancelotti, the answer's no. The only managers who get in ahead of Pellegrini this summer are Klopp and Pep because the appointment would be longer term. Bringing in Carlo to replace Manuel is much of a muchness as they're both excellent, attacking coaches, who are both at an age where retirement is just round the corner!

I don't think there are long-term managerial appointments these days, not unless you're a mid table side with no aspirations of European football, but at the same time comfortably clear of relegation.

It's all about cycles as Khaldoon pointed out. I'd be very surprised if they weren't having a look around come the end of the season to see who is available, even if it means lining someone up for summer of 2016.

The pool of candidates for the City job is tiny so it's not so much a case of looking around rather seeing who's interested and when? Klopp could become available this summer but Pellegrini won't be sacked just because he's available. Pep the following summer seems the more logical progression - particularly in light of the news that he was offered a new contract at Bayern pre Christmas but has so far opted against signing it.

More pertinently I think as things stand Pellegrini has done nothing to warrant his position being questioned. Just to go back to the point you were making about him being out thought by better managers, he's also beaten Pep, Mourinho, Wenger, Van Gaal, Martinez, Brenda, Koeman, etc. There's no such thing as the perfect manager, but on the balance of performances/results/trophies I wouldn't be swapping our guy for any of the guys i've just listed with the exception of Pep.

That is a very bold statement to make tho

Who knows how well some of those managers would do with City's resources at their disposal

I'd be very surprised if Mourinho and Wenger didn't win the league with the squad we have had over the last 18 months, id even be tempted to throw Van Gaal into that statement

Do you still fancy Klopp for the City job MA?

I'd prefer him over Pep. Dortmund at their bombastic best, as they were for nearly two years, were the best team in the world to watch. I prefer the way they played to Pep's Barca even.

Sadly I think it's pretty much out of the question that he'll become City manager anytime in the next few years. Pellegrini will go nowhere this summer because we don't need a new manager, and the following summer I think it'll be Pep's job to refuse only he won't refuse it this time.

What will worry me greatly is if Klopp moves to the PL this summer. I think many people in Germany feel the logical next step for him is Arsenal due to his characteristics as a manager - and I think from Arsenal's point of view what they can learn from United's attempts to replace Ferguson is that it shouldn't come down to when the outgoing manager wants to go, it should come down to when the guy you want as his replacement is ready to come.

I'd prefer Klopp over Pep. Not a fan of him as a human being personally.

Not convinced that given the team that Klopp was given at Dortmund that Pep could do a similar job, but am sure that Klopp could have done similar given the Barca and Bayern teams

Would definitely be sniffing around him if I was in charge

Pellegrini has won the league with our squad in the last 18 months. That's the difference between him and all those guys. He IMO is going to win it again this season, and if he doesn't he'll lose it to a team which has been built with equal amounts of money and who's wage bill is on a par with ours. No disgrace if we're there or thereabouts at the season's end.

He was offered the City job when Mancini's replacements were being lined up. Both him and his agent said as much subsequently. I just think that this time round Txiki will want Pep. On the plus side, if it's true that Txiki and Pep speak regularly and remain close friends, then you'd expect if for whatever reason Pep isn't going to come, then Klopp will be top of the list to replace Manuel.
