maybe the club don't want pellegrini to be flexible, maybe the people at the top say "we want a recognisable style a bit like the tika taka of barca, what ever the reason he really needs to be more flexible, yaya cannot play in a two,by all accounts edins not doing it,

ferna and fernan in the middle with yaya pushed up higher,cm/acm , silva and nasri/milner/navas buzzing around aguero is imo the way forward, pellers has earnt a bit of leeway imo,but in the bigger/harder games I wish he would play 3 in the middle.

There are only two coaches who could definitely a). take us even further than MP has and b). continue our style of entertaining football, and they are inconveniently occupied at 2 of world football's biggest jobs - Guardiola and (maybe) Ancelotti.

You could throw names around all day... Koeman, Klopp (doing a terrible job at the moment), Simeone (probably does not correspond to our club style), Vieira, De Boer... but only those two would offer any guarantees. And they aren't available. So get behind Pellegrini and support him till the day the club decide a change is needed (and the right manager is available).

Wise words.

The manager has got some issues to deal with but he clearly does not go in for knee jerk reactions, unlike some suporters.

He is not getting the performances that he wants from his players and he has to so something about that but he deserves to be allowed a decent amount of time to to so.

Today wasn't good at all. Worst performance IMO since he took over. Our lethargy was unbelievable. It was like the whole team was on sleeping pills. The passing was sloppy the movement slow. We had none of the hunger you need to play that formation. I didn't have a problem with the team selection but he should've changed it at half time and I can't believe how long it took for both Milner and Jovetic to come on. In the end we got what we deserved.

I still think there's a lot of knee jerking going on, but I said when I started the prematch West Ham thread that if we didn't win today the knives would be out in the weekly narrative. He'll be under very little pressure internally. He's been there 12 months and won the league and he fits the bill perfectly in terms of his demeanour and standing. There's too much to play for for anyone inside to be panicking.

You've just posted some equally pathetic nonsense on the matchday thread about being holistic.

Sort yourself out,we don't need to be opening old wounds.

''opening old wounds''!!

get over yourself

we are debating the manager

the manager was picked in part because of his value in terms of the holistic vision that the board has where other managers might have had more obvious claims to the position

is it some sort of sacred cow that can't be mentioned lol

Evening mate, are you still happy with the 4-4-2 and don't think that's part of the problem?

I don't see much knee jerking tbh. Just some concerned City fans with some suggestions for what may be going wrong with some constructive proposed changes to maybe help get back on track.

I think enough people have written the season off and there's been enough 'nice guy but clueless' posts for it to comfortably qualify as knee jerk.

But it's a forum and people can post what they like. I just thought one or two might have learned from last October's hysterics. There's still almost an entire season to be played.

There is but there are some worrying signs that should have been ironed out after last season and that's why people are concerned. Losses to Stoke and West Ham.....very similar to some of the losses last season that we got away with. 2nd half Moscow was very very poor and first half today was just as bad. I think it's also clear to everyone that Chelsea have hugely improved and will be a real threat this season.

There is some hard work to be done this week

He's a one trick pony and it doesn't take much as Stoke, CSKA & West Ham found out.

We won the league last season cos we were forced to play Dzeko up front on his own due to injuries which suits for the players we have.

He'll be sacked before long. Absolutely zero improvement on Mancini apart from he's a "nice" guy.

We've been poor at the back and conceded way too many shit goals, which was what happened at the start of last season too. I'm generalising of course, and I fully agree today was awful, second half of Moscow was awful, and the manager needs to get one or two things right quickly. But there's plenty of time.

Big week ahead for him no doubt about that. He needs to get in the players heads and lift them because they are collectively playing below par and have been for a week now.
