4-4-2 was the formation that won us the league and cup last season you wally

No it didn't. 4-4-2 nearly cost us the league last season. It was only when he was forced to play 1 up front cos of injuries to Aguero, Negredo & Jovetic that we started to dominate and win games.

Everton away & Palace away being the prime examples.

Ahh right so you're sensibly forgetting the 30 PL games we played before we 'started to dominate'

Do you not remember the 20 odd game unbeaten run over December - February :)

Some proper numpties come out of the woodwork after a couple of poor results. Derby can't come soon enough.

Thing is the silly sod has picked Everton and Palace away as his examples, am I right in thinking we started Kun and Dzeko in both those games

You really really couldn't make it up :)

Poor run. We'll get a point at best from the derby (sadly I think the shite will knick a win). Overall from what I've seen up to now I can't see us winning anything this season. Our being 2nd in the league shows the paucity of the league rather than how great we are. I think it all lies squarely with the manager and if we continue in this vein he'll be gone by summer.

Bang on... I was just about to post that they both started.

Also we struggled badly against Villa with Dzeko up top on his own until Jovetic came on, then we scored 4 goals in the last 30 minutes or so.

Like MA said, a couple of bad results and a few wallies manage to remember their login details all of a sudden

True that.

Another one was Palace at home over Xmas when we were struggling badly. Started with Dzeko alone up top and we didn't get the goal until half way through the second half when playing with a 2 after Negredo had come on.

As I've said before, absolutely Buckley's chance of Pellegrini going anywhere this summer. Anyone who thinks that can only be thinking in hope rather than expectation. We'd have to look like we're going to finish outside the top 4 for that to even become a conversation, and that (us finishing outside the top 4) is no more likely to happen this season than it was last.

I just think it's pretty naive to wantonly criticise a manager and his system when it's just won you a league and cup double. I'm sure that if Pellegrini felt he'd win more games playing with one up top he would do.

I'd have far more sympathy for the criticism if it was a similar scenario to Mancini's 3 at the back where it was crystal clear from the performance whenever we played that way that the players either couldn't play it, or simply didn't want to. Either way that isn't the case with Pellegrini's 442, far from it in fact.

That's not to say I don't think we can or shouldn't be more flexible, especially when we have fixture pile ups. But IMO that comes more down to playing Edin. You play Jovetic or Silva with Kun and it's a totally different complexion to the game than if you play with Kun plus the big man.
