It's not about having a crystal ball, it's about "this comp is low on the list of priorities, Sunday is more important"; it's about risk management and mitigation of said risk. Given that brief I would have thought rather than risking Merlin and Aguero, fuck it off and keep them safe.

Now, here's your opportunity to ridicule me, however on Talksport on the way home from work, Mickey Scouse Geordie Horse Abuser Quinn stated "I've just seen that Newcastle team and if Newcastle win it will be an absolute miracle. City'll score 10". So given this seeming dearth of quality in the Geordie 2ndeleven, why risk our best players in a comp that's a "nice to win" rather than a must win like the game on Sunday?

Risk management mate.

Why are you listening to the pikie horse abuser?
Maybe the manager wanted to build momentum, who knows? It's over, stop the fucking whinging and bring on the red rats!

Time to put these cunts back in their box.
Because I was stuck in bastard traffic! :))

Obviously we can only second guess what Manuel was trying to do, but for me (and I go back to the where this comp is on the list of priorities) no point taking the risk. Save the players I know can build us that momentum for Sunday and tear those cunts a new arse and potentially kick the season off properly.

Right now, we're sweating on Silva and with Sergio picking up a yellow (and following the scrutiny on him after West Ham) we were one rash challenge/show of dissent/absolute shocker of a decision from the ref of losing him for Sunday too.

I agree with you on putting those cunts back in their box.

Couldn't know Dave would get injured bud when I saw he was starting I thought he'd help us kill the game early and rest legs, as did everyone else on here according to the pre match thread, the revisionist cunts.

Let's bury the rats and sing

"never feel more like singing the blues... "

Don't get that?

Yaya played an hour and he didn't anticipate Nasri having to come on after 5 mins and only wanted him to play max of an hour.

What else could he have done?
brought navas on for silva?

Well that wouldn't have been an earth shattering replacement considering how shit Navas has been recently.
but then nasri could have been brought on in last 20/30 like i thought the original plan would have been?

Picked the right team tonight arguably with the exception of Silva (nothing to do with his injury btw, i'd have just rested him along with Kun because of the number of games played recently).

We were very very poor of that there's clearly no doubt. Look forward to the manager getting an FFP'less couple of transfer windows to deal with the clear weaknesses we have in the squad.

Performances like tonight let him know who's in for the fight and who's just in for the pay cheque. Still so happy with have the derby to get this shit out of our system.

I'm not. This blip in form couldn't have been timed worse.

Pellegrini knows what's going on but whether he can influence matters I don't know. Sometimes you have to trust your players

I'd stop rotating the centre-backs. Mangala and Kompany need games together.

I was going to say drop Dzeko, but maybe he is trying and it just doesn't look like it from the stands. manager has more information and knows the character of the player better than we do.

I trust Pellegrini, but this season may run way from us before we can do anything about it. We had moments, several moments like this in both our title winning seasons.

Sorry but there seems to be some blue tinted glasses going on here.

Look at the players that started:

Caballero
Sagna
Demichelis
Mangala
Kolarov
Milner
Fernandinho
Y Touré
Silva
Jovetic
Dzeko

Subs:

Hart
Zabaleta
Fernando
Nasri
Jesús Navas
Agüero
Boyata

How the hell did that team sheet not put us on the front foot even before kick off. Would you want to be Alan Pardew reading that?

MP even said "This year maybe we are playing in irregular form. Maybe some parts of the game well and others not so well."

Sorry MP but you've put out a strong squad, you've spent the money, it's your tactics, your training. It's down to you.

What frustrates me more than anything though is the lack of motivation, commitment, call it what you will, but there is something missing. How can we have 70% posession, 20 odd shots on goal and not score? Are we becoming the next Aresnil?

Congrats to Newcastle though, they came with a plan to stop us and it worked. I'm guessing there will be much merriment in the North East tonight, especially round the Quayside area ;)

I think we should give the opposition the ball, sit back, organized, then break like fuck. Just for a few games, get some clean sheets, confidence back. Abandon the higher defensive line for now, we aren't playing well enough to break down organised defences with enough regularity to consistently outscore them, and aren't organised enough defensively to stop being counter-attacked.

Take a step back to go forwards. Simplify things a little.

Is it true we've only won 4 of our last 12 matches? If this "blip" continues, Pellegrini won't

Everyone has a fucking gameplan and it always works though. Chelsea, West Ham, CSKA, Stoke, Roma and now Newcastle executed a gameplan they prepared and succeeded. Fucking gameplans.

Were so fucking predictable its a joke. 2 strikers, 2 midfielders, soak pressure until our centre halves are in your half/corner, then bang hit on the counter OR crowd the midfield and press so we look lost in possession and fall apart.

Its so fucking basic, yet we do it time and time again and dont change. Its infuriating.
