Interesting comments from Zabaleta about the game and recent results plus Pellegrini reaction

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/pablo-zabaleta-di-maria-quiet-8039468

I thought the comment about pre-season was interesting. Zab said City had a poor pre-season, and Pellegrini has said that too.

Also found the comments about pressing Di Maria. That's pretty obvious, but nevertheless a key aspect of the game. It's been notable that Di Maria has been a lot quieter in Utd's games against Chelsea and City

Hopefully some changes next pre-season. Chasing the US$ or HK$ is pointless if it damages the preparation of the team, and hurts results, as commercial success is entirely underpinned by the success on the pitch.

I'm not sure the timing and the move to the new training complex is helping too much either

Cant really see that having two much effect on them, we have been lethargic all season, I tend to agree with Zab.

I know it's a cardinal sin to criticise Pellegrini on here but we won yesterday despite him and not because of him.

Anyone who has watched the rags over the last few weeks knows that all their threat comes from the flanks. To counteract the problem Zabba and Cliche supported by Navas and Milner were total no brainers. Kolarov would have been a disaster defensively but thankfully for us he got injured and Cliche came in.

As for the substitutions with respect anyone who thinks they were anywhere near the right call knows nothing about football. For 70 minutes we were cruising and in complete control. Joe didn't have a save to make and the only question was how many we'd get. Milner and Navas were providing both defensive cover for Zabba and Cliche when needed whilst posing an attacking threat and effectively pining the Utd full backs back.

The game plan was working perfectly with one small exception, Jovetic. Once again I couldn't fault him for effort but like Wednesday night things weren't quite coming off for him. Therefore there was only one change we needed to make which was to bring Fernandinho on for Jovetic and push Yaya further forward behind Aguero. This move would have achieved two things. Firstly it would have given us extra mobility and defensive cover in midfield to ensure we didn't give Utd a sniff and secondly Yaya could do his work where he is most effective these days.

Instead Pellers brings on Nasri who has had so little football recently, missing most of preseason and the current campaign through injury and Dzeko who is a different player to the one who scored important goals for us last season. One nil up in The Manchester derby is not a time to bring players on to either improve their fitness or help them return to form. Taking Milner off was hard to understand. What could Manuel possibly have been thinking? Nasri is a million miles away from being ready for big games like yesterday. Yes he has one or two nice touches but he went missing after 5 minutes. Dzeko was missing full stop.

As a result the game changed dramatically and in the end we hung on against 10 men totally taking the gloss of what should have been a thumping victory. Pellegrini nearly blew it!

I didn't know Boyata was on the bench. And Sinclair too? Jesus Christ.
I assumed that Sinclair only made the bench, because he had nothing better to do when Kolorov was injured in the warm up, and luckily had his boots with him, but Boyata does suggest Mangala had a knock that wasn't worth risking, though I'd have gone with Demichelis anyway, and it certainly made us look more solid, it gave Fernando cover, who in turn gave both CB's cover.

Mangala's time will come, but right now I'd shelter him from the more tricky games, and yesterday was tricky, given that united (for some reason) thought their tails were up prior to the game.

They had drawn two games on the run which I am sure you would agree is an improvement. When you put it alongside the Intergalactic and QPR Cup they are beginning to look unstoppable

I would have thought he was thinking "we have a f**king BIG game on Wednesday night that Milner has to play in because of other injuries", probably.

How about winning the ' f**king BIG game' we were playing at the time first?

He then had to sub Sergio to make up for his cock up of subbing Milner. His substitutions yesterday were a nonsense.
Paul_Powers_Tash post is spot on. However as he said it's a cardinal sin to criticise Pelllegrini in the 'Manuel Pellegrini' thread
so most just don't bother anymore as its not worth the hassle.

Great post. Exactly how I saw the game.

That, imo,is a perfect assessment and summary of yesterdays game.
As my tachycardia was reminding me....the boss made much harder work of it than he needed have done.

So we won the game despite of the manager did we?

His "naive" tactics had us winning the game 1-0 and it should have been more but for the ref and his so called "naive" subs maintained that winning margin.

How the fuck some of you think that we won despite him is laughable.

10 mins of hoofball from the rags doesnt mean he doesnt know what he is doing lol.
