Manuel Pellegrini

Very nice man with lots of integrity. If I am honest, not sure how significant his influence was in our title winning season other than he was liked by the senior players more than Mancini. In the subsequent seasons I thought his shortcomings as a coach became increasingly alarming. I never got the impression that he or his team put much effort into understanding the strengths and weaknesses of opposition on a weekly basis. Tactically inflexible and a level below an elite coach.
This to a tee. And far better written than I'd have managed!

If I think about it quite a few similarities with Ranieri but will less charisma. And before anyone dives in, we should and could have won more trophies in that period with the squad we had.
Very good summary.

Interesting that when Rijkaard was sacked by Barcelona, Pellegrini was one of the names on their list to replace him. But he got rejected early on & they went for Guardiola. He came to us an an antidote to the abrasive Mancini but he was only ever going to be a stop-gap until Pep was available. His first season he had the benefit of a team that had been drilled by Mancini but the players liked him and we had a great season. But after that, he simply didn't get the best out of the squad he had. Not sure he's what Leicester need at the moment.

Very good first season, free scoring football, average defensive work, went downhill after that.

We got found out regularly and he did nothing to try and prevent it. Examples:

- We constantly got found out from out wide with a little through ball between full back and centre half, his offside trap just didn't work.
- We lost the ball constantly from throw ins.
- Set pieces were also very poor.
- Tactically naive, rarely got his tactics right in big games.
- Went on a season too long, should have changed manager after the 2nd season but we were waiting for Pep.

He's obviously proven in the past he can do a job and maybe he will for Leicester but think the game has outgrown him at the top level.
