Impossible to say as fact and purely down to opinion. However compare stats for same age. Messi buys and sells diego. Not even close, look at Balon D'ors, at a time when Ronaldo is here too. Look at goals to game record, also look at his record in European Cup/CL.

Messi is a fantastic player but he's been fortunate to also play in one of the worlds greatest sides ever, Maradona wasn't as fortunate.
Either way they are both legends of the game but it's still Maradona for me.

Your loss then. You choose not to read because you don't like what's written.
Compare stats game for game at the same age. Messi is Mr Consistent. Hence why he will be regarded as the better player when all is said and done.
I'm not talking Maradona down either, he's a God in football and rightfully so. However, you massively play down Messi by not seeing my argument which is Messi's is MUCH better at the same age. As i said, look at his trophy haul, collective and personal, his stats too.

Had Messi been in that Argentina side back then, he would been even better than Maradona was in it.
I like Maradona and recognise he is probably in the top 5 players of all time along with Pele, Di Stefano and one more from Zidane, Ronaldo (either one) Rivaldo..... loads I have forgotten, and Maradonas cheating in '86 has no influence on that as I remember him being brilliant for Napoli.
As someone else said, Messi does it in 95% of games, his levels of performance against the best sides in the world are imo unparallelled.

Check this link out for stats. Look at International games, Messi has an even better goal per game ratio and yet is seen to be under-performing Internationally.

Anyway, don;t want to clutter a Maradona thread because the guy deserves praise not criticism, just don;t like myths that he's far and away better than Messi because he isn't, that should not distract from Maradona though, what a fucking player he was!
Also I think THE Ronaldo was as good as any striker ever too. Look at his silverware!
