Might of been better going in with 35m+addons with only week left in-the window l!? Going in so early gives Bloom to sit back and say nought! Going in later in the window might of actually got them talking instead of it all going through the med
How would that work with no time to replace him

We probably, rightly, wanted the group together as early as possible - look at the panic in here with a month left of the window. I am sure we will bring in an alternative but, if we don't, I am quite happy to run with JWE backing up Cancelo on the left, with Ake as the third choice (he's really a CB) and Walker backed by Rico Lewis. What is important to me is that these young players are played all season: minutes during league games and starts in cup games - they cannot be thrown in when we have an injury with so little experience if an abundance of talent.

Something must be going on about breaking even money wise because if it is 53m for a 23/24 year old is “reasonable” considering what we paid in the past for players!

This on going investigating from the premier have we done some sort of deal that we will not over spend and have net spend of a certain amount? Or is this new Pffp of a 3 year of 90%80%70% wages % of income making us be cautious?
Or could it be our American investor wanting to see some return?

Another possibility is the seemingly imminent recession, could the transfer market crash in the next 6 months?

Great set up they’ve got. As long as they hold on to the manager, they’ll keep uncovering gems like Cucurella and Bissouma who the financially stronger clubs will want to buy for millions. It’s not so long ago Brighton nearly went altogether.
Bissouma went for 26m, last year of contract? I think he’s second tier of Premier League players just like the Spuds Richarlison. So, double what they sold Bissouma for, on a very good player who no one knows if he will be top class, £52m is a gamble.

I’ll say more than a bit!

We paid £28m for Cancelo, and we received £32m for Danilo. They were two transfers in the same window for two players in the same position done between the same two clubs, but they were two seperate transfers.

We didn’t give Juve £28m plus Danilo thrown in out of the kindness of our hearts, we recieved the £32m for Danilo.
That transfer and the way it was done stunk on the Italian side, something very dodgy going on there and not for the first time with Juve.

Anyone get the feeling Chelsea are just trying to piss us off ? Making big splashes by specifically targeting our own players plus anyone we show an interest in ? It seems like a tactic to me by the new owners
Thats the feeling I get. They/their owner, have looked at City and want to outdo us. I do hope we're spinning them like we did utd.

There new owner will get a shock when they see the income coming in ain’t going cover the wage bill last owner had to continue put money into the club and why they did have debt of over a billion!
This...
Chelsea are now owned by a private equity fund not a single owner/benefactor.
Am I right in thinking they dismantled their football technical/scouting organisation during the transition?

On the face of it it looks a bit like - "City are after that player so they must have done the homework and he must be good, lets get that player".

To be fair its probably what you would do until you've sorted out the technical staff again.

It a dangerous game though, Utd have done it for a few years and ended up with some right dross such as Sanchez, Maguire etc...

Favourite part of the Sam Lee/Pol article is how even City acknowledged how pointless the opening bid would be - "Just an opener, just to register interest".
