I agree. He’s more comparable to that signing than either Walker or Cancelo though. I never have a problem when we walk away from a deal on grounds of price. For me, £50m was too much for this player, although I do sometimes wonder about our valuation of players being on the high side, which inevitably leads to clubs trying it on when we go for their players.
I think clubs always try it on against City but so many of these negotiations come down to people's egos. I believe the Kane deal died when Levy briefed his pals in the press that "he wouldn't even pick up the phone when City called." In this case Brighton briefed the local media that "they were laughing in the boardroom when they saw City's offer." I am pretty sure that finished off any goodwill.
City's management are very sensitive about poisonous briefings to the media by other clubs...for obvious reasons. Let's see where Brighton finish in the league. Perhaps we will have the last and the loudest laugh.

Anyway; The media reporting wholesale that Cucurella to Chelsea was a done deal is another example of jumping the gun, or being misled, or just wanting headlines and clicks.

Maybe.

Maybe it is Brighton that want the headlines.

When we signed Mendy he was regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe and had just won the French League and reached the CL semi-final with a star-studded Monaco team. Before then he had been successful at Marseille. We know it all ended in tears but when we signed Mendy he was rated much higher than Cucurella is now. I think City did the right thing walking away.
If the reports are true that Bloom refused to talk directly to City (essentially taking the piss) than I can't see what else we could have done. The days of clubs taking the piss out of City are over.
It that's true about Bloom then f*** him & Brighton. Small-time Charlie. Appreciate he can do what he wants & should be under no obligation to sell but that's a pretty poor stance in my opinion. Might work against him in the long run.

That would of been Brighton’s problem it would just make Bloom react quicker as in he could say not for sale or get proper negotiations going Unlike now Bloom is revelling in it know he has weeks before the window shut!
Yeh but with no time to replace he'd definetly say not for sale
