Interesting comments from Bloom. Encouraging for us, not so much for the Brighton fans who were Villa-like in being adamant Bloom would be a ballache to deal with.

It’s simple - lodge a bid and he’ll move. None of this shite that he prefers to live at the seaside. He has all his life after football to be on the beach, while he’s playing I bet he’d rather be challenging for things.

Bloom knows that and won’t ruin his business model and getting players in the future by making it a nightmare for a player to move onto something new at the first chance he gets.

Ask any Brazilian supporter from the 60s (not many left now, I know) and you'd likely be told that Garrincha was better than Pele. Won them the '62 World Cup on his own, from the right wing.

That's what I've heard. It's like people who saw Peter Doherty (no-one alive now, obviously), or Duncan Edwards. I wish I'd been around to see them. I was born in ’53, so theoretically I could have seen Garrincha and Edwards. Fell in love with football in ’66, unfortunately. Also, didn't have any kind of access to a television set. Not that there was much footy on the telly, anyway.

I spoke to an Arsenal fan many years ago in a pub in Didsbury (he was in his 90s at the time) and he swore Doherty was the best player he'd ever seen.

Since when does City "bid" for players in public? As always City operate in conversation with club and only bid when theres a verbal agreement. Odd thing to ask when both of these facts can be true at the same time...

Tony can say he's not got an official bid while there could be a verbal offer from City.

It's at least plausible for both clubs to want to be discreet about this. City won't want to be seen to be paying over the odds (having ended up with egg on our face big time for the Mendy business, for whom we reportedly paid a cool £51 million), and Bloom certainly won't want his supporters to feel that the jewel in their crown has been underpriced. The very public business of Kane will have left a bad taste as well. It won't stop reporters from speculating about sums, of course, but I suspect this deal will be done very much behind the scenes, if it's done at all.

You were probably totally right about that info. Although i dont think people understand that City talk with clubs and dont make public bids like the rags does, hence Blooms comments. They are probably in deep talk and just slowly awaiting Sterlings transfer to go through.

It seems like it's a 5-10m difference between City and Brighton. It'll get there, imo.

Thanks for the info, Matty.

I think it’s pretty timely Bloom coming out with this comment now, shortly after them turning down a bid.

Brighton still haven’t sold their season ticket allocation (which are now on open sale), so they can’t be seen to be selling off their best players, especially given that Bissouma was sold way below market value, and so far they have only brought in a couple of kids.

Some quotes from bloom which are more encouraging imo.

Bloom also refused to be drawn on Cucurella’s future despite interest from City, adding: “I’m not going to speculate on individual players we may or may not get bids for.

“The fact that there is speculation and there is interest in our players, I always view that as a positive. It hasn’t always been like that.

“There’s less than three or four clubs where some of the players are not for sale.

“We’ve got to be realistic if a certain bid comes in and the player wants to move, the player will move, but we are not anticipating, we’re not looking for our best players to move on.

“If it happens and we get a bid then we have to consider it, but until that point, we carry on.”

Dancing shoes firmly on.

Exactly this……most of us do accept this is how it works. Where Bloom will play hardball is the number, but if City want him and meet Bloom’s valuation it’ll happen (and be ‘undisclosed’ when it does so we’ll all carry on guessing what the number was).

but undisclosed would say you havent got the fee the fans wanted? i think it will be around £40m with add ons up to £50m.

No….our transfer fees are ALWAYS undisclosed, in or out. Think you’re right, it’ll take somewhere around £50m with most of it up front

Thats not correct, Bloom will sale if the price is right. BHAFC fans understand that.. its up to you to nake Bloom the offer hecant turn down. Oh and yes Bloom is willing to let players rot in the reserves, he done it with Dale Stephens and Dunk.

Waiting list for season tickets, they have sold out. But you have not bid, how can you turn somthing down when that somthing is not there.

i think the bid will be £45 to £50 million plus add on. Cant see us accepting player from you on loan. That just MHO.

Or that you have not paid over the odds.

city now state through the media how much the prices are to avoid that very accusation? When we signed Haaland it was going to be allegedly £64m release clause where it was actually £51.1m with agents fees taking it to £85m? Every media outlet had the Kalvin Phillips deal all the same as well? £42m up to £45m with add ons? No hiding either way then mate. The days are gone when city are quoted as overpaying, ruining football etc and not standing up for themselves.

Formal and informal bids are not the same thing.

Buying clubs test the willingness of the selling club to sell.

So let’s take the @mattyb info to start with. City might ring Bloom up and say how about cash and a player? Bloom says we just want cash.

City have then done exactly what Mattyb has said but Bloom does not consider it a formal bid as he is waiting for a cash only offer and says they haven’t received anything.

Nobody is lying.

Couldn’t disagree more. With ake seemingly off as well this position has become a necessity. Last season playing stones at rb cost us a place in the champions league final.

We need another full back we cannot go into next season with Walker, cancelo and zinchenko as the full back options it’s proven that it isn’t enough depth.
If Ake goes it does change the landscape slightly, depending on which CB we sign as his replacement, although how many times did Ake play left back last season?

As I said I hope we do sign a LB, as I do think we need one, I'm just not convinced City see it as a must signing with what we currently have.

I fucking love the fact that Brighton fans are conducting Brightons transfer negotiations in a City forum. Maybe they should stick to doing what they do best, booing an over achieving team and manager. Funny though, I’ve got no inclination to go into a small Brighton forum and conduct transfer negotiations, or indeed go in there full stop.

thats how city have worked for years though isnt it? They get to the point where its all agreed by having a chat and then bid so the optics are its come from nowhere but the reality is its been ongoing for weeks etc?
