FYI...
We're not "Council Tenants". The Commonwealth games only got the go ahead on the proviso there was a long term stadium tenant insitu post games.
ManUre had Old Toilet & Roger Black campaigned to keep the stadium as a smaller Northern based national athletics stadium.
The stadium was originally designed as an 80000 capacity, all seater stadium with a retractable roof, but the government didn't want to spend the £150m to achieve this, so essentially opted for a stadium of half the capacity minus the roof for £80m. (Don't get me started on the cost of London based Wembley & the Olympic Stadium!) :-|
A deal was struck with City where we would hand over Maine Road & spend £20m redeveloping the City of Manchester Stadium site into a 48000 all seater football stadium. Whether City wanted to buy the stadium or not, we can't until 2102.
Because EU & Central government money was used in the construction of the Stadium, there's a 100 year covenant meaning the stadium can't be sold. City have purchased the surrounding land & built the new training complex, a college & a school & are involved in a joint council project to build thousands of affordable homes in the adjacent area.
Hopefully this will fill in the gaps in your City knowledge, & stop you from being the snide, whining, bitchy little twat you evidently are...
