I like the player, so if it's £50m for an ex-Barça Spanish international with PL experience, then a deal of £40m - £45m plus add-ons might seal it.

£32m for Zinchenko softens the blow & we can still bid for Sosa or Raum & finally have 2 specialist Left Backs for circa £50m - £60m net which will hopefully resolve a problem area for us for the next few years.

If Juvé are seriously interested in Gundog, with a year left on his contract & a fee of £20m being mooted, we should go for FDJ. At 24/25 years old & a fee of £58m being discussed, he'd be a long term replacement for £40m-ish.

That would leave a possible Sterling replacement as the only hole needing to be filled without fitting square pegs into round holes or risking a whole season on Cole Palmer being at the required level.

If we can manage to pull this lot off, this would be a fucking WOW transfer window for City & one which'll set us up for years to come, with serious money still left in our transfer reserves.

A wow window but a lot of changes. Not a fan of moving out some many players at once. Consistency would suffer.

Agree with the point behind this, it puts a weight and a scrutiny on him.

I don't think it is a case of people not appreciating his performancee though, which suggests he has actually been very good and folk just fail to see it. For me it is a case of he hasn't shown that much last season, and people emphasise this more because of the price.

Either way, he needs to affect things a lot more this season and have a much bigger contribution. Particularly with outgoing players not being replaced by additional signings.

Most of people on both sides still think a left back is an important signing and have been saying so for a couple of years.

Yeah, but instead of solving problems (buying one or creating a natural LB like Bayern with Davies), we are playing in a stubborn game while we need an urgent upgrade on this position. We have much more things to do in 2023 than thinking about signing a left-back (Gundogan's replacing, possibly Bernardo, right winger, etc.) than focusing on left-back. We are talking too long about that position and still, nothing has been done. I have an impression that nobody is focusing on this position seriously. "Let's try Ake", "Let's try Zinchenko", "Let's try Cancelo", but we have not signed a proper one for ages. So if we are not prepared, when will we be prepared? :)))

No idea.

Realistically, there's no reason I can think of why we haven't signed one unless we're financially in the shit but that's not really plausible.
 
There's still 6 weeks left - time is on our side

Brighton will be doing work behind the scenes to get a replacement lined up - i really think this one is just a matter of time.

Also we've just won 4 out of 5 PL's, worst case scenario we don't get him - we've done alright for the past 5 years without a natural LB
