Marc Cucurella

it is simple We paid 100m for Grealish and 42m for Phillips because it is the correct valuation but 50 mil for cucurella is not.
We paid 100m for Grealish because that was his release clause. In reality he's probably a 60m player in today's market, 70m if you add the usual English tax.

I thought the initial talk of a 30m release clause for Phillips if Leeds got relegated would've represented fair value but it was always going to be higher when they stayed up. 42m still seemed a bit high to me but maybe getting Haaland so cheap meant we were willing to pay a bit extra.

I agree that 50m is too high for a player with one year of Premier League experience and no Champions League experience. I don't have a problem with us walking away from the deal, I was merely stating that Brighton are well within their rights to ask for that given what we've paid previously for players of a similar level and experience.

No idea why people keep using the Grealish deal as an example. It was a release clause not a negotiation. Take it or leave it, we chose to take it. If Cucurella had a £50m release clause I bet he'd have been a City player weeks ago. The club's stance here has been to attempt to demonstrate we won't be turned over in negotiations.

If Brighton were initially pricing Cucurella at £50m, it doesn't seem unreasonable to open on our side at £30m with an expectation to meet in the middle at ~£40m. That's a fair (if slightly inflated) price for a player with Cucurella's profile. (I also get the vibe City were reluctant to offer the full £50m in negotiations as there was an expectation Bloom would just move the goalposts again and increase the price further.) Bloom has just decided to play Billy Big Bollocks to look good in front of Brighton fans. He clearly doesn't give a shit about his player (in stark contrast to how we treat our players). It's not like City were trying to get Brighton to sell him for a bag of Maltesers and a Kitkat. If I were ever a player with options and Brighton were amongst them, I'd have them at the bottom of my list after this little display.

This also makes me wonder how much influence Potter has at Brighton. I'm guessing very little as he doesn't seem the type to want to hold a player hostage. Hopefully he moves on to bigger and better things soon.

You are exactly proving my point here.

I don't think City thinks that 50m is outrageous, it certainly isn't when put in context of wider market. The reason for this standoff is because we started too low and were incorrectly expecting Brighton to decrease their valuation. We dug a hole and now we can't get out without being seen as "weak".

As for my opinion this entire concept of winning and losing a negotation is bullshit. Every single big club gets rinsed in some transfers, there are no exceptions. This doesn't mean the same thing will happen in future, nor not getting rinsed doesn't mean you won't in future. We walked away from outrageous prices of Maguire and Sanchez and yet here we are, ain't nobody giving us any freebies because of that. The situation with Cucurella is different because 50m isn't outrageous price in the market.

Football usually isn't that deep. The simplest answer often the correct one.

They wanted £50m and we offered £30m so they've ended negotiations. That's it.

If clubs cared so much about fans opinions they'd stop raising the cost of single games and allow cup games be cheap.
Bloom (like Levy) are a very different sort, though. Appearances (i.e. reputation and ego) are everything.

It’s a wild theory, and likely not accurate, but I wouldn’t put it past him to do it.

If we thought we could throw our weight around, we would have asked more for Zinchenko.

How many players put in transfer requests away from City, even when we know they wish to move on?

The truth is much more simple, we are decent people and other clubs see City as an easy touch.

We are no longer that club, we have our valuation and don't need to pull our pants down for anyone.

Last season we did win the league and losing in Cup semis wasn't down to a lack of depth, squarely down to injuries at the wrong time and the moments where a top opponent can kill you in the blink of an eye.

City will not let this window close without buying another left back and the only loser in this would be Cucurella.

Kompany shocked City by leaving, we expected him to go another year and the timing of it killed our due diligence on a top quality replacement for such a pivotal player.
Do you think this is totally dead?

Personally to me it seems a rather predictable move in a long game that will end up with Cucurella wearing a lighter shade of blue

Why does everyone praise bloom for sticking to his price but not txiki for sticking to his price?
I'm surprised anyone can have an opinion on how somebody else's money should be spent.

These are multi million pound deals not house buying.
Little wonder there are entrenched views on 1 million pounds let alone the current disparity.

Feel sorry for Cucurella.

This seems over to me but this whole saga has surprised me.

From the outside it looks like Brighton think we instigated the Transfer request and now won’t talk to us.

There are no winners in this.

We dont get our player

Cucurella can’t move to City

Brighton have an unsettled player who publicly said he wants to go.

All round nobody has done a great job on this one so far.

Serious Question To City fans...Do u believe Romano to be on your payroll as well as other big European clubs?...all the time he was being fed positive information from agent he couldn't wait to tweet, now...diddly squat...not really unbiased journalism is it?
The transfer window really does make people go mad
