Marc Cucurella

Both Liverpool's full backs aren't great defensively either. In fact there are currently no full backs who can combine both roles to a really high standard

Hahahaha. Did you support Chelsea or something 15 years ago when they were buying a shiny new toy every week of the transfer window ?

The fact you think you know more than Txiki and co about how to negotiate a transfer is an embarrassment.

How do you know we are now ‘having to find a new full back’ !? Do tell me ??

Maybe Pep (as he has stated more than once) is happy to go with what we have. Don’t tell me you think you know more than Pep too ?

Moron.
Weren’t you telling us Pep didn’t want to lose Zinchenko and preferred him to Cucurella?

Hahaha - I know the feeling mate!

And yeah - Cancelo has so much upside to his game, but against the very best as a defender he’s simply not good enough.

That needs addressing - and I fully expect us to have a proper left back in place by the end of the window.

Anything less would be negligent.

Might be wrong, but for me this is a simplistic way of thinking about a Pep defence, especially after 6 years of watching Pep's City and listening to his interviews.

The fundament of a Pep's way of defending is having a lot of possession and having a build-up play good enough to deal with intense high-pressing. For that purpose you need defenders who are great on the ball and brave in possession. Many seem to think that if we have another Walker at LB, we'd be perfect in the big games defensively wise. That's dumb. Another FB who is technically limited and chooses only save options would be deadly for a Pep build-up play and for our possession- based game. If Walker attempts to do what Cancelo does in our build-up play and in the opposition's half, he would make so many mistakes that people would question his value for the team. He knows his limitations and plays safe, unimaginative passes. If the other FB is like that, a Pep team wouldn't be a Pep team.

But couldn't we find a player who can do what Cancelo does for our build-up play (most passes in the whole league and most touches over a season in PL history, no less) and is more solid in defence? Well, where's that FB? If Cucu was that, we'd pay 80m to have him. He would be the best FB in the world by far, and one of the best players period.

If you hear or read 'Cancelo can't defend', you are dealing with a fan who watches Pep's City for 6 years now and doesn't understand how we win trophies. If we buy a FB good enough to start at LB in big games, then Cancelo will be used at RB, unless he is off form like in the final month or two in 20/21. He isn't perefect at all, he makes mistakes, etc. but he's been highly important to our build-up play since 2020, 2-3 months aside.

Still get the feeling Chelsea go in for him just to wave their dick about a bit. They don't need him but it wouldn't shock me at all.

"Anything less would be negligent".
Sorry mate you cannot say that on here it implies criticism of those upstairs. I'd lock your doors and change your username..

Repeated Brief from Brighton then

They’re in a strong position apart from the fact they’ve got a player there who wants to leave and has made that known.

He’s even got his agent talking to the most well-known (Twitter) journalist spoon-feeding him information to get a move through.

Bloom looks like the little tough man who took on the City big boys and won but in reality he’s going to be left with an unhappy player whose agent has a lot of the same type of talent on his books all while making other players and their reps think twice about going there as a stepping stone (like Cucurella did) if they’re not going to be allowed to leave for a reasonable price (£50m is too much given they paid £16m last Summer and his relative inexperience).

All a bit short-sighted IMO because he’s pissed off about a £30m bid and a transfer request. Just because they value him at £50m doesn’t mean that we will but they seem to have taken the £30m bid as a pisstake which is strange behaviour. Again IMO.

Good for them but not 1 journalist’s is willing to acknowledge the elephant in the room…an unhappy player. Keep him by all means but in the long run it won’t work out. Guarantee he is sold for a lesser amount within 18 months.

Brighton can claim the fantasy victory for now. The reality is they will have damaged their recruitment process and club image to future players. Agents talk.
