finding a left footed player to play left back makes sense for this style of play.

Cucarella would seem to be great in this role, but it's looking like the club don't want to take the risk at that price.

I guess you are right. And it will be good to have a left footed player at LB. It won't guarantee us more goals (I predict a good number of right footed assists by Cancelo for Haaland), but will make us less predictable and more versatile.

Some have decided that Grealish will be better with a left footed LB. They may be right, don't know. But won't be surprised if Grealish's problem is related to a mental block, and not to our LB.

That is just 1 gimp on the internet. Nothing more. Dunno why you even bother posting the shit.

I was hoping someone on here is a professional who can get in touch with him and let him know that writing fifty poems about how Tony Bloom is great and City are shit is very weird behaviour. Didn't fancy telling him myself in case I got a slam poetry response.

In all my years seeing embarrassing opposition fans this is the worst. Worse than Goldbridge. Worse than Howson. This is a grown man. Shit 'poetry' too.

Who are these entitled City fans the Brighton fans keep going on about? I haven't seen any. They're imaginary.

Mind you, the idea of a guy with one goal last season scoring a hat-trick against the best defence in the league made me laugh. They're completely deluded about how good Cucurella is.

These Brighton dummies are so desperate for attention I'm crying

From the outside looking in (thanks for having us BHA fans here by the way) there's still one thing I don't understand about this whole saga.

Having read much of this thread, a few things seem clear. You need a new LB/LWB, ideally a left footer, Cancelo very good in that position but can struggle defensively in the big games, you're a very well run club, great scouting, you don't need nor want to take risks in signings, Cucu has been your priority, Pep wants him, you've made profits on player sales this summer, and you don't value him much more than £30-40m. None of which I have reason to dispute.

The question then is WHY was Cucu your first choice? You're Man City, the best team in the country, one of the best in the world, with major ambition to win the Champions League. You have a squad full of players worth in excess of £50m. So why was your top target for the critical LB position, where you have a clear need, and selected by your scouting dept and manager, just a player worth no more than 30-40m? You'd be picking sides with global superstars 1 to 11, except for the average floppy haired guy on the left.

I find that hard to reconcile. It's not a dig, just doesn't quite add up.
You’re right it’s puzzling.

Could be that he wasn’t or isn’t the top target.

I think we perhaps have a range of targets for any one role with a price target. The team bid up to that target and move on if it doesn’t look like getting done for the ‘right price’.…..

Alternatively, maybe we just felt for the money he was a risk….one cap for Spain, no CL experience, not a guaranteed start….

For those people think Cucucrella is not worth 50M.
Cucucrella 2021/22 stats at Brighton:

Defending:
+ Tackle won: 62/88, 1st rank at BHA (McAllister 51, Bissouma 50, Cancelo 54/89)
+ Successful pressures: 201, 1st rank at BHA (McAllister 199, Bissouma 146, Cancelo 119)
+ Block: 72, 1st rank at BHA (Veltman 65, Cancelo 45)
+ Interception: 72, 1st rank at BHA (Veltman 67, Bissouma 65, Cancelo 75)

Attacking (keep in mind Cucucrella played 10 games at LCB, Cancelo always high up the pitch), and playing for BHA not best attacking force in the league as City
+ Chance create: 42 (Cancelo 39)
+ Successful cross: 29 (25,2%), Cancelo 20 (16,1%)
+ Key pass: 43 (Cancelo 39)

BHA bought him at 18M, City bid 30M is a joke, 40M still too low.

I'm not defending him but guessing if we signed him- this would have never been unearthed here. Ironic how players who we lose out on due to zero fault of their own go from being potential heroes and saviours to being panned and vilified as soon as it looks like they are not join our side.
I do remember dearly departed Gus posting this a while back when the Cucurella links started up.

I just think that even though our passing and movement won't necessarily change, it was noticeable on Saturday that Haaland is looking to run onto through balls.
If we can do that we need to do it quicker, without worrying about getting the ball onto a players correct foot.

Grealish needs to be more assertive. I want him to play like he did against Real Madrid away, running at defenders and taking shots, he almost scored twice in that game and looked a real threat.

Why on earth do people keep posting Cancelo in the team of the year (voted for in January hence Salah winning POTY) at left back to prove their point we don't need Cucurella/AN Other? Anyone with half a brain could see his drop off towards the last couple of months of last season purely due to imo the amount of minutes he had to play, the standard we play at we need capable players to play a large number of games giving us the luxury of not overplaying players
