I’ll take pannings all day, every day if we pile up the trophies. It really isn’t an “insane “ fee. It was probably 25-30% higher than our offer. “Insane” would be offering 100-150 million. 55-60 million for a player under contract in the prem, who has the potential to help the team run the league/ champs league etc is other going rate. Chelsea have beaten us to it on this one. No denying it, no covering or buttering it up with talk of “over the odds “ etc. Plain and simple, we’ve lost out here.
Keep your knickers on , too high so we bailed

They've overpaid, Brighton must be laughing their socks off.
Now we know why our club went quiet on the transfer. Quite rightly, they weren’t going to be ripped off. £57m + £5m in add ons is ridiculous but annoyingly - if we’d paid that the headlines would have been very different in a negative way.

Overpaid, never a £55million plus add-ons player, it's a gamble and one Manchester city don't make any more,
Chelsea needs to gamble in the transfer market and try and bridge the gap back to us and Liverpool, much like united have been doing for the last 7 years,

What’s more of a gamble; hoping Walker and Cancelo can both play every game this season without injury/suspension, or spending over £50m to ensure there‘s not much drop in quality that costs us points or a cup when either misses some games?

It would have been around £67m plus given what Chelsea are spending, do you still think we should have paid it?

Did that last night thanks.

Meanwhile on a football discussion forum I’ll continue to express concern that we’re actually very weak and light in a position we could have sorted once and for all if we’d spent what it took to do it. Now we’re left with some pretty average options or a season trying to fit square pegs in round holes if there’s even one injury.
Concern? You’ve been going fucking radio rental the last week, mate!! Haha!

The issue is if we'd overpaid for Cucurella, it would probably impact future transfers. Is Cucurella really worth all that potential future grief? Isn't there an alternative LB alternative in world football?

We paid £57m for Laporte & a reputed £72m for Dias, as well as £55m for Stones & £50m for Walker. The £62m for Cancelo wasn't offset against the £30m we received for Danilo, so his fee is debatable.

Was Cucurella worth £62m? Were any of the above worth their fees? I'd say in hindsight yes, but with Cucurella it remains to be seen if he can live up to a fee that must make him the most expensive full back in world football, or within striking distance of that accolade.

There's one benefit of Cucurella to Chelsea... The Brighton fans have fucked off to the Shed End, so I suppose that's summat? \0/

The issue isn’t spending an extra 10/15 million, it’s the principle. It’s took years for us to lose that city premium, giving into unrealistic demands because we’re desperate will bring it back.

Correct. We have to keep demonstrating that we won't just pay anything because we are a rich club. We need to keep building the reputation of being the best run club.

Maybe Cucurella will justify his fee one day but Brighton have got away with a pisstake and got paid a lot for future potential.

But remember kids, according to everyone else 'City have unlimited cash, and buy whomever they want, distorting the market and ruining the league.'

Hilarious - working from home today & the radio just had the top news headline of Chelsea signing Cucurella. No mention of the transfer fee whatsoever.

If City had signed him the staggering transfer fee would be the leading headline!

The Pep effect in action. Getting gazumped on a player with 1 good year behind him. 60 mil is way too high.
Chelsea have fallen into the trap that utd did to their great cost.
Pep buys players that he can work into the team ethic. Other teams think if we are after them they will be the player for them that they would be at City.
Just don't happen that way.
Chelsea can have him. He has shit hair anyway!!!

It’s not even like it’s a surprise how this went down.
It’s been a policy for a fair while now and has worked in many regards.
Maybe this will be the one that bites us on the arse, we will have to wait and see, but I’m gonna give our club the benefit of the doubt.
