Marc Vivien Foe

Will definitely be attending this evening in memory of a good player .
Plus , been to a few evenings organised by the prestwich & whitefield branch over the years always been brilliant nights.
They did a sportsmans dinner with keegan at lancashire cricket club, that was tremendous.

As a 10 year old, I cried my eyes out when he died. Our Yaya before Yaya came along. Hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years.

I was 9 and cried my eyes out. Loved him in the year he was with us. Remember how emotional the final was as well, particularly Henry who was in tears and then celebrated his goal with the Cameroon team, very classy moment.

listen, might be a bit disrespectful, but im getting old

just how good was this guy.?

from what i remember he was YAYA esk ?

quality
He was nowhere near as good as Yaya but still a decent player.

I never agreed with retiring the shirt number, he was only with us for about eight or nine months and wasn't even our player...but I thought the tributes outside Maine Road were very touching and he will always be remembered fondly by me.

His performances and goals at Charlton and at Everton were his stand-out games in his short spell with us.

He was terrible at first couldn't pass missed sitters but he upped his game and was fantastic and scored 8 goals i think and i'm sure he was heading for Inter after the confederations cup

I've seen Yaya play some howlers for City like Southampton for starters!

Yes I agree Yaya has done some great things for us especially at key times in big games but to dismiss Foe as a million miles away is rather silly.

As I've posted already, Foe's goal ratio is better (and that was in a team that created less, scored less and played on poorer surfaces too!) than Yaya's.

His box to box running was more consistent that Yaya's but not as quick. His tackling ability was similar although he was not as physically strong or as good in the air.

All comparisons are subjective of course, however if both were playing today at their peak and for sale simultaneously, then Foe would cost £20m whilst Yaya would be £25-30m.

Now that may be £5-10m apart in sterling but it is no way a million apart in miles and anyone who believes that really should take their Yaya tinted specs off and watch him play when we don't have possession.
MVF worth 20mill .... are you taking the piss ? .... lets just pay tributes to a city player who died way to early , but 'legend ' better than Yaya , worth 20mill , .... do me a favour

A sad loss for football and to his family, Never bought the sun paper again after they printed the picture of him lying on the pitch on the front page - totally disrepectful

R.I.P

I remember he signed for us at the same time as Di Canio, great picture out there of them two hugging . He was a class player, I loved him and was totally devastated when I saw that picture of him dead on the pitch.

I will admit tho he was never and would never of been in the same class of Yaya.

I don't agree with saying he never was and would never have been of the same class as Yaya! Fergie tried to sign him when United where unstoppable but he broke his leg and the move fell through and he was only 28 and improving when he passed away and Yaya peaked at 28 and is now phenomenal at 29 so nobody knows how good Foe would have become if Fergie would have signed him or when he moved to Inter after being on loan at us (According to Kevin Keegan Foe was on his way to Inter)
